Margaret "Maggie" Eckford (born November 21, 1985), better known by her stage name Ruelle, is an American electronic pop singer-songwriter.[1] Her music is widely used on many television series, and she is the singer of the opening theme songs of Dynasties ("Game of Survival"), Shadowhunters ("This Is the Hunt"),[2][3][4] and The Shannara Chronicles ("Until We Go Down").[5][6][7][8]

Early life and education

Born the middle child of three sisters, Eckford grew up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and attended a private Christian high school. She attended music school in Sydney, Australia.[9] Ruelle is now professionally based in Nashville, Tennessee.[1] Eckford adopted the French word "Ruelle" as her stage name because she liked how it gave off a sense of darkness and mystery and how it had multiple meanings including "chamber" and "wolf".[9]

Music

Though Nashville is best known for country music and rock-and-roll, Eckford's first two albums, For What It's Worth (2010) and Show and Tell (2012), released under her birth name Maggie Eckford, were indie pop.[1][2][10] She then adopted the stage name Ruelle to represent a change in genre, moving toward electronic pop with a dark and cinematic style in the EPs Up in Flames (2015), Madness (2016), and Rival (2017).[1][2][10]

Ruelle's first television placement was a song in a Japanese iPad commercial.[9] Besides the aforementioned theme songs for Shadowhunters and The Shannara Chronicles, Ruelle's songs have also been featured in numerous primetime television series, including Arrow, Dancing with the Stars, The Challenge XXX: Dirty 30, Cloak & Dagger, Eyewitness, Famous in Love, Grey's Anatomy, Guilt, How to Get Away with Murder, The Leftovers, Midnight,Texas, The Originals, Pretty Little Liars, Quantico, Reckless, Reign, Revenge, Riverdale, Scream, Sleepy Hollow, So You Think You Can Dance, Teen Wolf, Titans, The Vampire Diaries, The Walking Dead, Wynonna Earp, and The Village.[1][2][9][10][11][12][13]

On film, she is featured on both the trailer[14] and the soundtrack[15] for The Loft as well as trailers for Bad Moms,[16] Before I Fall,[17] Free State of Jones,[16] and Keeping up with the Joneses.[16] Her song "Game of Survival" is featured in the 13 Reasons Why trailer, the Gears 5 trailer and the trailer for David Attenborough's BBC Earth series Dynasties.[18] "Madness" is in Siren, and The Looming Tower trailer features the song Rivals.

In July 2018, the released trailer for the upcoming series Titans by DC Universe features three of her songs "Madness", "Monsters" and "Revolution". She also released the song Take it all, using it as a trailer to the Local ITV Yorkshire production "Emmerdale" to mark the return of the Villainess Kim Tate.

The song Slip Away was featured in an episode of Midnight, Texas season 2

Ruelle has collaborated with electronic music producer Ki:Theory, provided the vocals on his song "Bringing Me Down".[19][20][21]

Ruelle's best-performing song on the Billboard charts is "I Get to Love You", which reached #15 on the Spotify Viral 50 on March 5, 2016.[22]

Ruelle also was in the song "10 Feet Down" by NF, part of the album "Perception" which hit #1 on the Billboard 200 Chart in 2017.

In January 2019, "Wake Up World" a collab track between Unsecret and Ruelle was used for the first teaser of the STARZ exclusive limited series, The Spanish Princess.

In August 2019, her latest EP "Earth Glow" went out. There was so much work that went into this album, it challenged Maggie in so many ways but she said it was so rewarding at the same time and allowed her to move into this next phase creatively. Maggie decided to split up her new album into two EP. Earth Glow came out on Wednesday 7th august 2019 with 5 songs and then she has another EP coming out right after that, that will be another 5 songs. She took this decision because sometimes when you get 10 songs at one time it can feel like a lot to digest, and she spent so much time on this songs and they mean so much to her, so she really wanted us to be able to give them all the attention they deserve and really hear them. “Fear of Letting Go” (a very popular ask since it was already heard in Life Sentence) is gonna be on the second EP. She doesn’t have a specific date yet for the second EP but it will be in the next couple of months so we don’t have to wait very long for it. Her favourite song from the EP is the 4th song “Like You Mean It”. It is a really special song for Maggie, she wrote it about her husband so it’s pretty personal for her. Actually all the songs on this EP are very near to her heart. Fleurie, one of her best friends and such a talented incredible human being, and her wrote “Like You Mean It” together, with her dear friend Jeremy Lutito who also co-produced the record and the EP. She sais it’s so awesome when you get to create music with your friends.[23][24]

Maggie is also with some friends since 2018 on a little side project called "Club Yoko". Their song "I am" has been heard worldwide since August 2019 in the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10 commercials.[25][26][27]
