Sourav Mukherjee (born June 16, 1991) is an educator, author, new media researcher, animator and visual artist[1][2] based in Kolkata, India.[3][4]

Early Life and Education

Sourav Mukherjee began his academic journey with a degree in multimedia and animation from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata.[3] He later pursued a master's degree in film studies from Jadavpur University. In addition to formal education, he earned a Senior Diploma in painting from the Shastriya Sangeet Kala Parishad, where he was awarded a gold medal.[3]

Career

Mukherjee has been associated with The Hindustan Times, ABP, The Statesman,[1] Linde Group, Rupa Publications, Patton, Indifolio Mumbai, Tata Group, UNESCO, and the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.[1][5]

Then he transitioned to education and became the Head of the Animation and Gaming Department at iLEAD Kolkata.[6][1] He has also been a guest speaker[7] at several institutes across India and received recognition as a top emerging artist in Indian Talent Magazine.[8][9][10]

Publications

Mukherjee has authored two books on animation and new media. His first book, Sotoborshe Bharityo Animation,[11][12] is the first comprehensive history of Indian animation written in Bengali.[13][4] This book, published by Vigyan Prasar, a unit of the Ministry of Science and Technology, was launched by former Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu.[11] The book explores the evolution of animation in India, tracing its development through various socio-political and socio-economic contexts.[14]

His second book, From Paper to Pixel, launched by Swati Guha, Director of the Institute for Language Studies and Research (ILSR) in Kolkata,[3] examines the transformative role of digital media in modern communication.

Recognition and impact

Mukherjee was awarded 'The Xavierian Artist 2014' by the former Governor of West Bengal, Sri Keshri Nath Tripathi, and the 'Kalanand Award' in 2016.[3] His achievements in media have also been recognized with the Golden Mike and Idea Bandwagon awards.[13] His work has been officially selected for the International Film Festival of India.[3]
