I request this to be a redirect to Close central rounded vowel#Close central compressed vowel in the same way is a redirect to Mid front unrounded vowel, since it will help users like me quickly find the correct pages by simply search for these phonetic symbols. This is a blacklisted title. Is this unusual character combination something that people actually search for? – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:37, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Was unable to find this title, "Ɨᵝ" on either the enwiki blacklist, nor on the global blacklist. Each symbol, "Ɨ" and "" can be found separate from each other in from one to six spots on the blacklists, but they are not found together on either list. Seems odd. And it isn't clear from the link which symbol should be used; should it be ɨᵝ? or even ÿ (that's already a redirect to the "diaeresis" article)? The "ÿ" symbol seems like the most common of the unofficial symbols for the cccv. So maybe it should be retargeted to the cccv link. And I don't see how it would hurt anything to create the requested redirect, as well as one at ɨᵝ. Not versed well enough to be certain, though. Scratch that last part because when you click on the ɨᵝ red link, it just takes you to the subject page of this talk page. Seems ɨ is just a different case of Ɨ. Noted there is also ɨ͡β̞ that could also serve as a redirect to the cccv link. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 05:44, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
When I open this page to create it, the warning says:
Warning: This page can only be created and/or edited by administrators, template editors, and page movers because it matches an entry on the local or global title blacklist:
(?!(User|Wikipedia)( talk)?:|Talk:).*[\x{1D00}-\x{1DBF}].* <casesensitive> # Phonetic extensions, almost never used in valid titles"
I don't have enough background to know why this blacklist entry was created and don't feel that I can override it casually. Someone else may feel so empowered. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:12, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like it was created for the single symbols because they had little or no use as titles, but now they actually do have a use when used together as a symbol for the "close central compressed vowel". I'm going to go ahead and grant this request, as well as to make a second redirect at ɨ͡β̞. May or may not retarget ÿ; not sure yet. The symbol Ÿ has been retargeted to the cccv link. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 22:26, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
