- ... that the opening goal of the 1992 Football League Third Division play-off Final was described as a "Russian linesman job"?
5x expanded by The Rambling Man (talk). Self-nominated at 11:07, 11 February 2021 (UTC).
- Newness requirement satisfied by 5x expansion between 2/8 and 2/11. Article is also long enough, well written and sourced, and Earwig detects no issues. Hook is short enough and interesting. For some reason, the hook source (from The Times) isn't fully loading for me, but it's accepted in good faith from an established user. QPQ requirement is satisfied. My only suggestion is to delink "Russia linesman" ---> Tofiq Bahramov. When I read the hook, the intrigue led me to want to click to that article rather than the subject article. If the goal is to drive viewers and eyeballs to the subject article, delinking Baramov will clearly help. I leave that decision up to the nominator. Cbl62 (talk) 20:17, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
- Sure, delinked per suggestion. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 13:59, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Lead
Peterborough goalkeeper Fred Barber failed to catch it, and Francis scored to level the game
— Same comment as below (second comment re: "Summary").- I'm not sure why this is a challenge, the goalkeeper failed to catch a shot (i.e. he didn't keep hold of it) so it went free for someone else (Francis) to score it. Route to the final
an altercation with Jim Gannon
— Any details?Stockport progressed to the final with a 2–1 aggregate victory.
— May as well also mention the score of the second match (1–1).Peterborough, which progressed to the final 4–3 on aggregate
— Ditto (2–1)- Anything more you can say about the four matches? Granted, they're not the main subject of the article. But they're still pretty short.
- Expanded, hopefully to your satisfaction. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 10:53, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
Background
Stockport had most recently played at Wembley Stadium eight days before the play-off final when they played Stoke City (who they had defeated in the play-off semi-finals) in the Associate Members' Cup Final, losing 1–0.
— This starts in the present (playing at Wembley), jumps back two matches (cup final), then moves forward a match (semi-final). I wonder if the subject is better addressed in "Route to the Final"? At the beginning of the Stockport–Stoke paragraph you could mention the cup final, and at the end of the paragraph you could say that Stockport moved on to Wembley, for the second time in eight days.- I rephrased, more elegantly I think. Peterborough were making their first appearance at the national stadium.
— Had Stockport played there before, other than the cup final just mentioned?- I've got sources which imply that but nothing explicit so I can't guarantee it. Besides, this is really a chance to say when the clubs last played there, rather than ho many times in total they might have played there. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Peterborough's Gannon
— Stockport's Gannon, no?- Wembley could use a link somewhere besides "Details"
Summary
Kevin Francis won a number of corners, one of which was headed wide of the Peterborough goal by Tony Barras.
— How did the ball get from Francis to Barras's head?- From the corner. See Corner kick which is now linked. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 08:07, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
- So Francis was the one who took the corners? The "won" makes it sound as if he was the one who controlled the ball after someone else took the corners, not as if he was the one who took them. --Usernameunique (talk) 02:52, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- From the corner. See Corner kick which is now linked. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 08:07, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
Preece struck the ball from 15 yards (14 metres) which the Peterborough goalkeeper Fred Barber failed to catch and Francis scored
— I'm a bit confused by what happened here. Barber struck it towards the goal, but what happened them? Did Barber miss the ball, and Francis redirected it into the goal? Or did Barber block it, and Francis scored off the rebound?- No, Preece shot, Barber failed to hold on to it, so Francis scored from Barber's mis-handling. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! newly branded League Division 1
— What does "newly branded" mean here? Newly named? Newly reorganized? This might be better mentioned in the first paragraph of "Route to the final".- It means it had a new brand so I've linked the word. I'll add something also to the background section, as noted somewhere else in this review. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 10:54, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
Details
- Missing time of kickoff.
Post-match
The Peterborough manager
— May as well give his name here, especially since you refer to "Turner" later on in the paragraph. The Peterborough manager described the decision-making surrounding the opening goal as a "Russian linesman job"
— So he admitted that his team benefitted from a call that was probably incorrect?- Well it's a reference to the 1966 World Cup final linesman decision which has been looked at ad infinitum with a general feeling that the ball was over the line. He was simply comparing the scenarios I think. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 08:15, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
everyone makes mistakes I think it's time we tried television replays.
— This needs either an ellipsis, or the missing text.League Division 1 (the renamed Second Division)
— See above. May as well deal with this in "Route to the final", and ditch the parenthetical here.- I'll explain it further in the background but I'm not ditching the parentheses as readers need as much help as they can get with these confusing matters. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 08:15, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
League Division 2 (the renamed Third Division)
— See above.

Overall
- The Rambling Man, over to you. --Usernameunique (talk) 06:29, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
- Usernameunique responded to all the issues (I think, a little haphazard today, stuff like "work" got in the way) including a new para relating to the nomenclature change for the Divisions. Let me know what you think. Cheers (as always) for the review. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 12:53, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
- The Rambling Man, passing now. Left one comment above, but even looking at the source I'm not really sure what it means. --Usernameunique (talk) 02:57, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
