GA review comments

[edit]

Here they are:

  • Don't wikilink individual years.
  • The fair use rationale is incomplete for Image:2002 UEFA Cup Final.jpg.
  • Use WP:DASH for scores & year ranges.
  • "...Single match..." - why capitalise the S of single?
  • Locate citations per WP:CITE - remove spaces between punctuation and citation.
  • Expand date in infobox to include year.
  • "...producesd...", "...tallys..." - copyedit/spell check needed.
  • "...got an away goal..." - bad English.
  • "...pounced on a rebound...", "...managed to scrape...", "...blitzed the first leg...", and many other examples - not NPOV.
  • "Both clubs entered the competition in the third round ." - what does this refer to? And why the space before the full stop?
  • Headings should follow WP:HEAD.
  • Don't overwikilink - ie excessive linking of the clubs in the table.
  • For "5 goals" use "five goals" etc.
  • "...1999/00 Champions League..." - wikilink the article and use en-dash.

A lot to fix so I'll fail the GA nomination for the time being. Feel free to let me know if you'd like me to look at it again or explain my comments further. The Rambling Man 18:22, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Further comments:
  • No need for spaces between scores and the en-dash, so say 3–0 rather than 3 – 0. Same for year ranges, remove the unnecessary spaces.
  • "Both clubs entered the competition in the third round ." this is still sitting awkwardly under the table of scores - you've already explained in the main article that they entered in the third round, no need for this.
  • The fair use rationale is incomplete for Image:2002 UEFA Cup Final.jpg.
  • Wikilink whole dates, e.g. in the infobox, now you've added the year.
  • Numbers less than ten should be in words - five instead of 5, except in scorelines.
  • "All penalties were converted until Giorgi Gakhokidze stepped up, and saw his penalty saved, Feyenoord converted their subsequent penalties with van Hooijdonk putting away the vital fifth penalty.[34]" - two sentences joined with a comma- probably needs to be two sentences to read properly.
  • "...agrregate..." - still needs copyedit for spelling.
  • "... trademark free kicks crashing against the right hand post ...", "...they were thwarted when ..." still not encyclopaedic - it's not a sports report, it's an encyclopaedia entry.
  • "After half time, Dortmund were handed a way back into the match when Márcio Amoroso was brought down by Patrick Paauwe, however Paauwe was spared Kohler's fate as he only received a yellow card." - two sentences joined with a comma - probably needs to be two sentences to read properly.
  • Why is "hero" italicised?
  • Notes and References heading doesn't meet WP:HEAD.
Still needs a bit more work before it could be renominated for WP:GA. The Rambling Man 11:54, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Still some spaces between scores and en-dashes.
  • Still missing specific fair use rationale for use of poster in this article.
  • Wikilink whole dates (e.g. April 11, 1975)
  • "... it was too little too late..." still a bit POV.

Almost there now, I've made a few prose changes. On close examination of the references, you appear to have used a number of references more than once. Not a problem but if you do this, use the <ref name=blah>http://www.blah.com</ref> for the first use of the reference and then <ref name=blah/> for all subsequent uses. Once you've done this, then renominate the article at WP:GAC. Cheers. The Rambling Man 14:00, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The only thing I'm still not sure about is the paragraph between Route to the final and the two team sections. Shouldn't we look at placing the relevant information into the relevant team sections? I think that's my only remaining concern (but it's not major so if a football manual of style says otherwise, perhaps that's okay...) - Let me know. Good, I'm happy to pass it to GA now, well done. The Rambling Man 15:02, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
