Juniors' possessive

Article says in the juniors' this year, having already been elevated to the seniors'. Is it really necessary to have the apostrophes in there, signaling an elide word such as division? Many sources don't. We could just say in the juniors this year, having already been elevated to the seniors. Opinions? Dicklyon (talk) 14:42, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is it really proper English? The word is Juniors not Junior and "this year" really isn't possessive. The plural of a normal English word never has an apostrophe if it is not also a possessive. Fyunck(click) (talk) 20:29, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I assume that the apostrophe comes from shortening "juniors' division", where the possessive is somewhat plausible, though not all that common in sources. So it sounds like you agree we should just take those out. Dicklyon (talk) 04:50, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
