Before the swarm began[edit]

Interestingly, I knew about this swarm of earthquakes slightly before they began in 2007. Before the swarm I noticed the Anahim Belt was the only Holocene volcanic zone in British Columbia that did not have any recorded volcanic earthquakes. But I was not exactually sure when the swarm was going to occur or if it was going to lead into an eruption. I just knew the swarm was going to occur in the near future around Nazko Cone. After a few months of thinking about it, the swarm occurred. Because of this, I could easily be the first person to have known about the earthquake swarm, and I'm not too pleased the GSC did not have any seisographs near its location. This has concerned me about future volcanic events, especially eruptions. What would happen if a series of volcanic earthquakes occurred in a remote area like Silverthrone that would evolve into an eruption? The GSC employees would likely have a hard time placing seismographs in the region like what they did to the Nazko earthquakes because of its remoteness and mountainous terrain. And as far as I know, there are no seismographs close to any volcanoes in British Columbia. This is partly why I am so cautious about this kind of stuff. The lack of good monitoring and other necessary stuff in volcanic zones that have been active in the past 10,000 years is not acceptable, even if a volcano has not erupted for thousands of years. Several volcanoes that have not erupted for thousands of years have erupted recently. BT (talk) 03:37, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
