NATO Standard
[edit]Does NATO have a standard 20mm round? I know that the 25mm and 30mm cartridges are standardized as 25x137mm, 25x184mm, 30x113mm, and 30x173mm rounds, but I have not heard of a a NATO standard 20mm round.209.129.16.79 (talk) 00:50, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
I'm not positive, but I am pretty sure the 20 x 110mm Hispano is NATO standard. It's what the US uses in most of our 20mm guns anyway, and it came from a British/French gun. As far as I know it's just about the most prolific 20mm round in the world. If it's not THE NATO standard, I'm pretty sure it's A NATO standard round.

What happened?
[edit]This could be such an excellent article. I can't believe all there is here is a disjointed collection of half-facts that sounds like it was slapped together by 6 different editors, most of whom don't actually have a real clear idea what they are talking about (like me). An article on the history and the theories and practices of the 20mm caliber...a discussion of the 20mm vs 12.mm debate, and the 20mm vs larger calibers debate. Comparison of different types of guns in WWII, how two guns nominally of "20mm" caliber can be so different from each other. Inter-war and post-war development, the modern debate about high-volume 20mm fire vs lower-volume 30mm fire in an A2A scenario. Use of the 20mm in Vietnam; effectiveness as a ground-attack round. Comparison of different ammo types, discussion of different ammo mixes for different missions. So many possibilities, yet nothing.

- Please feel free to expand and improve the article as you propose, provided you have the neccessary sources. This is how Wikipedia works. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:36, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
- I have now cleaned the intro up. Feel free to expand - but not with that silly "disjointed collection of half-facts" that was there before.Snori (talk) 06:56, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
Cal or MM
[edit]It's either Caliber or MM caliber is typically expressed in inches while millimeters uses the metric system.
There are charts all over for convering Cal to MM.
For example a common round used in Europe is 6.5mm which equates to .260 Cal Or 9mm which is roughly the same as .357 Mag, .380 acp and .38 cal. The cal numbers vary depending on how the round was originally measured vs the barrel grooves and lands. 152.117.96.184 (talk) 21:50, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, but what's your point here? 20 mm certainly is a calibre. Also it's not a specific round, like the Oerlikon 20×110RB, it's just a barrel calibre (and doesn't define the chamber size), so the suffix 'calibre' is appropriate. Andy Dingley (talk) 23:11, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
