2nd Florida Cavalry Regiment
[edit]I have been researching the Marshall Plantation Raid of March, 1865 in which a unit of black soldiers and scouts successfully raided two plantations deep in Confederate territory - a fascinating, exciting story. The raid struck in the heart of the home territory of Capt. J. J. Dickison of Citra, Marion County who commanded Company H of the Confederate 2nd Florida Cavalry. I do not know of a Union 2nd Florida Cavalry regiment, only the Confederate one. Given the mustering sites - Union forts - there was likely a Union 2nd Florida Cavalry. However, the service record in the article lists several instances when the action was by the Confederate 2nd Florida Cavalry, led by Dickison in particular. Dickison wrote a section of a "Lost Cause" publication available online - Confederate Military History, Vol. XI about Florida.
