Bank of America Center (San Francisco)555 California Street

This is the official and most widely used name of this building. Name officially changed in 2005. The building's website uses "555 California Street", not Bank of America Center. Emporis, SkyscraperPage, and other sources: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5] also use "555 California Street" over Bank of America Center. 555 California Street is clearly the primary usage for the name of this building. —Rai-me 02:33, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:SKY Importance Assessment

[edit]

Why is the importance for this building being downgraded to "Low" for WikiProject Skyscrapers? As the second-tallest building in a major city with a height of over 700 feet (213 m), it should at least be Mid-importance. It was also assessed as "Mid-importance" in the project for nearly 6 years - what was the reason to suddenly change it? Cheers, Raime 16:13, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

it may be of more importance locally, but there's nothing particularly significant about it to the skyscraper project. --emerson7 17:18, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Completely disagree. It was the tallest building in California (and east of the Mississippi overall) when it was completed, and is still the 6th tallest building on the West Coast. How precisely are you defining what is important to the skyscraper project? Cheers, Raime 01:08, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
the tower, even when built, was really of no particular import in design or otherwise as far as skyscrapers go. it's really just another big building. i would, however, agree that it should rate higher on the WikiProject California / San Francisco Bay Area. --emerson7 01:38, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Its height is what makes it important as far as skyscrapers go - it was the tallest in the Western United States when it was built. Not having a groundbreaking design is a good reason for it to be ranked as Low-importance for WP:ARCH, but it should at least be ranked as "Mid-importance" for WP:SKY given its height and history. I'm not suggesting that we rank it as High or Top importance - changing it to "Mid" does not mean that it ranks among the most important skyscrapers in the world, only that it is of more significance than your average city high-rise.
