[edit]This article page has been set up all wrong. @WalmartLabs and Kosmix pages have been merged, they are distinct entities and they need to be separated out. Kosmix was acquired by Walmart and was turned into @WalmartLabs. WalmartLabs is not associated with the investors of Kosmix at all now. It is its own separate entity. Kosmix existed from 2004-2011. Walmartlabs from 2011- present. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.207.42.140 (talk) 22:18, 10 September 2015 (UTC)

[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello, Wikipedians! My name is Jenny and I'm introducing myself here as one of Walmart's representatives on Wikipedia. I have recently worked with the Wikipedia community on the Walmart, Doug McMillon and Criticism of Walmart articles. After looking at the @WalmartLabs article, I decided to reach out to editors to clean this up. As it stands now, the article is named @WalmartLabs, yet nearly all the information is out of date and centers on Kosmix, a company Walmart acquired in 2011. I hope the community is willing to work with me and update this article to reflect @WalmartLabs, as the article is titled.
I prepared an edited infobox to get us started:

Because of my financial conflict of interest, I will work on this article the same way I have on other Walmart-related articles: I will not make changes to the article myself and will discuss possible edits on Talk pages. Thanks,

- OK, I had a brief look at it. One thing that is incorrect is the founders. The company was not founded by Walmart, it was acquired by Walmart. The founders only reflect the 2 people who founded it originally. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 05:35, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
- Lemongirl942, that sounds fine to me. I have updated proposed details above. Would you care to consider the rest of the request? Thanks, JLD at Walmart (talk) 19:47, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
- Hi there.
The proposal seemed fine, so I changed to the infobox proposed in the article.(My edit was undone by another reviewer, so I'll leave this up to her)
- Hi there.
- Lemongirl942, that sounds fine to me. I have updated proposed details above. Would you care to consider the rest of the request? Thanks, JLD at Walmart (talk) 19:47, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
Note, you should avoid adding images to infoboxes in the thumbnail format:
|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]
, and instead add them like this
|image=SomeImage.jpg

- VB00, thanks for reviewing the request and updating the infobox. I see that Lemongirl942 undid the revision. @Lemongirl942: Did you have other issues with my proposed updates? I'm happy to discuss further. Thanks, JLD at Walmart (talk) 14:48, 5 January 2017 (UTC)
- Following up with @Lemongirl942: and @VB00: Did you see any other issues with my proposed infobox updates? If it needs to be tweaked, I'm happy to give it another shot. Thanks, JLD at Walmart (talk) 02:36, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
- Hi! The problem with your infobox is that it is replacing information. We don't do that - Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia and not the company's website. I understand that the company's website reflects the latest information and removes the older info. This is not the case on Wikipedia. If something was notable earlier, it should be notable now as well. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 02:48, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
@Lemongirl942: I think you are mis-applying "notable". The guidance is at WP:NOTEWORTHY. Per WP:NOTNEWS we are encouraged to provide up-to-date info. Thanks. – S. Rich (talk) 14:13, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
- In my opinion, the information on the board members and others who stepped down could be integrated into the history section, allowing the up-to-date information to be added to the infobox. This would resolve User:Lemongirl942's concerns. Regards, VB00 (talk) 08:57, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Lemongirl942, VB00, and Srich32977: I understand the importance of retaining information that is pertinent and historically important to an article. My issue is that infoboxes are reflections of current information and as such the one in this article is inaccurate. The board members listed are not board members of @WalmartLabs; the number of employees is off by more than 3,000 people; the products listed are former Kosmix products, not @WalmartLabs products; and it is not a private company, it is a unit of Walmart. I am not looking to delete the information altogether from the article, just move it from the infobox. I planned on next proposing updates to the History section, which, as VB00 pointed out, is a good place for these outdated details. What would be the best course of action to handle that: Updating the infobox at the top of the page and incorporating the outdated Kosmix details into the text of History, or updating the infobox at the top of the page to reflect @WalmartLabs while moving a full Kosmix-centric infobox to History? Thanks, JLD at Walmart (talk) 19:05, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Lemongirl942, VB00, and Srich32977: Checking in to see if anyone had a chance to read my note above. As outlined there, I see two ways to update the infobox with current info, while keeping historical details that editors think should remain. Thanks, JLD at Walmart (talk) 17:30, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Lemongirl942, VB00, and Srich32977: Now that we've allowed for some time to pass, can someone review this request again? The problem is the infobox is inaccurate, which can lead to confusion for readers. Jeff Bezos, as I'm sure you all know, is the founder and CEO of Amazon, and is not a private investor in @WalmartLabs. He invested in Kosmix, the company that was acquired by Walmart and ultimately led to the creation of @WalmartLabs. But for the infobox of an article titled @WalmartLabs, featuring the @WalmartLabs logo, to say that Mr. Bezos is a private investor is confusing. Certainly this detail is noteworthy and a better place for it is in History. Additionally, the board members listed are not members of Walmart's board of directors. They were members of Kosmix's board, which no longer exists. The number of employees is not true. The list of products are all former Kosmix products, not @WalmartLabs products. Again, I see details on Kosmix better suited for History, not the infobox. As I have asked above, what would be the best course of action to handle this: updating the infobox at the top of the page and incorporating the outdated Kosmix details into the text of History, or updating the infobox at the top of the page to reflect @WalmartLabs while moving a full Kosmix-centric infobox to History?
