On or near the border?

[edit]

Can anyone confirm if this mountain is officially wholly in India or if it is on the Tibetan border? Each article in the different language wikipedias puts it in India only and google maps has the border awkwardly cross its northern slope just below the summit. However, the (1950s) map of the Gharwals I have has the border cross the peak and a natural borderline would go over the summit. Indeed, in his book History of the Indian Military Academy (2007), M. P. Singh (Brig.) writes "..and climbed Abi Gamin (24,130 ft) on the Indo-Tibetan border. Despite its location in the info box of "Chamoli, Uttarakhand, India", the lede currently has the conflicting "It lies on the northern border of Chamoli district, where India meets Tibet." According to my maps the summit (Russian 100K, 200K and an old tourist 150K) Abi Gamin's summit is on the border, but all but a northern slice of the mountain is in India. Viewfinder (talk) 03:39, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
