Engines

[edit]

I can't find a Hirth F2ES engine, is it possible that Hirth F2ES is actually Hirth F-23?

Also the text says the aircraft was powered by two "30 kW (40 hp) Zanzottera flat four engines", while the specs say "2 × Zanzottera flat twin, 30 kW (40 hp) each". I suspect these are the Zanzottera MZ 201, a twin cylinder, two stroke that puts out 45 hp (34 kW). Can we at least resolve the inconsistency in the article? - Ahunt (talk) 11:34, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect the flat four in the text is an error but I have not got JAWA06 at home. I've changed it for now and will check Jane's the next time I'm in the library. I'll also check the Hirth designation.TSRL (talk) 13:01, 29 April 2015 (UTC) I've also removed the ref about receivership, as the purpose of that site has changed; could do with a replacement.TSRL (talk) 13:09, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That would be great if you can check Janes when able! - Ahunt (talk) 13:11, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just checked in Jane's 2006: both 40 hp and both the Zanottera and the Hirth F23ES (not F2ES) are flat twins - strictly the JAWA article on the Airelle does not specify the configuration of the Hirth but it is in the engine list on p.935, though JAWA has its own misprint on the power!. I've corrected the misprints in the WParticle and added a ref to the engine page.TSRL (talk) 17:11, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for doing that. I have linked Hirth F23ES to Hirth F-23. Too bad we can't be sure about the identification of the Zanzottera engines. - Ahunt (talk) 17:34, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's true that Jane's gives no type number in the Airelle article but, given that the engine is described as a flat twin, then, if Jane's engine list in the same 2006/7 ed. is complete, it would have to be the 40 hp Zanzottera 498ia - there are no other candidates. But I guess that's OR. Cheers,TSRL (talk) 08:53, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
