Weight??[edit]

This page is not a fan page, it is an encyclopedic article that talks about the man and his significance (i.e., why does he deserve an article in wikipedia). He certainly did not became famous because of his appetite or this love of jazz. I find this completely irrelevant to the article.
On the other hand, the article is a stub. If you find any other useful information (i.e., why he was so important in the Fund, something about his ideology, or his results, or what motivated President Calderón to nominate him for Secretariat of Finance), then that would be useful.

I just think it is a trite, hackneyed statement that has no place in an encyclopedia. I am sure that the president of the IMF knowing Carstens personally can state of his loyalty to the institution and his work ethic, but I have not seen any other biography that has a statement from a former employer or co-worker to "give context to who the guy is"; furthermore, does it really matter what a past co-worker or employer thinks of him, even if it is a famous politician or scholar? also on the opinion of high profile scholars like Chomsky or Stiglitz(who thinks that the FOBAPROA is one of the biggest scams in history), being part of the IMF is no honor (feel free to read the article about the institution in this same ecyclopledia): It's all a matter of opinion. Well, what i think is appropriate is to provide a Neutral Point of View backed by claims. The opinion of his former boss is just that, and it is sourced as such. I see no reason to eliminate it, although, perhaps modify its style. However, if you can provide source material on all the accusations you make of Carstens, it would greatly improve the article.
Finally, Mr. Chomsky does not live in Mexico. Do you have sourced material proving that FOBAPROA was "the biggest scam" in history? Bigger than Bretton Woods? Bigger than the Argentine financial crisis of 2001? Evidently, one has to study about the subjects he criticizes, sometimes... Hari Seldon 07:44, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I really do not think you read what I wrote. Carstens did not live in Mexico either and now he is secretary of economy, what does that have to do with what I said? I am not aware of Chomsky's stance on FOBAPROA, however, I know Joseph Stiglitz's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJVYXs8108c&mode=related&search=) I guess you can email him and ask him for sources, or see if he has really studied the subject, I am sure he has. I do not think that the quote is a problem as such. However, in the order to present the neutral view point, one should also include quotes which are critical towards his career or 'achievements'. I agree. I attempted to add one sentence of well-sourced criticis regarding his orthodox neoliberal economic views, and it was immediately removed and replaced with these trivial "Agustin is such a great, intelligent, widely travelled man" quotes. -- Jrtayloriv (talk) 17:03, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

other biased views in the section[edit]

Don't you think this statement is also problematic? "Given his long list of achievements and qualifications, his designation as economic policy coordinator first and Treasury secretary afterwards were well received across the board, by academics, policymakers and the media." This is just somebody praising the guy, but there are absolutely not references what so ever. Katja Henttonen

"impressive carreer"[edit]

I removed the "has built an impressive carreer" remark. It is not encyclopedic and obviously written by someone who likes the subject. The facts can speak by themselves, users will judge if they are impressive or not.
