Fiction?
[edit]I have removed the word fictional from the description of this authors writing as it implies he was a novelist dealing solely in imaginative fiction. It is clear from reading his best known book "Settlers and Convicts" (1847) that the work is heavily autobiographical with elements of fiction added. the books value as an historical source is discussed by Manning Clark in his forward to the 1964 MUP edition (reprinted in 1969 and 1977) in which he begins by saying, "This work is one of the best descriptions of the way of life and the values of those men who helped to build the colony of New South Wales by the labour of their hands."
