What does the Manchester area include?
[edit]According to the article, this was the second purpose built aerodrome in the Manchester area. Does this mean the City of Manchester or Greater Manchester? My point is that Greater Manchester wasn't around at the time, so is it actually a truism that this is the first purpose built aerodrome in Manchester? Shouldn't this be what the article says? We are all aware that Trafford Park isn't and wasn't in Manchester right? -- Jza84 · (talk) 12:28, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- Expressing it that way is not at all clear: we know the boundaries of the City at the time and those of Greater Manchester County but where would the M/c area stop and then become some other area. The Hundred of Salford would be more meaningful but hardly a wise choice. (There was usage of Greater Manchester even earlier: John Heywood I think published an Atlas of Greater Manchester about 1885.)---Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 14:18, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
Interestingly, Trafford Park lobbied to join Manchester in 1901, but Lancashire County Council objected. After a Government Inquiry the idea was rejected. 212.121.210.45 (talk) 14:07, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
