12 and 14 mile islands[edit]

Since Twelve Mile Island and Fourteen Mile Island, Allegheny River are essentially the whole of the state park in question, would it not make sense to merge them into the state park article? Dincher 05:11, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • From Google Earth aerial photos and the USGS topo map, it appears there are also houses on eastern two thirds or so of Twelve Mile Island and that the park there is just the western (upstream) end of the island. The other two islands of the park are both labeled Fourteen Mile Island on the US Army Corps of Engineers navigation maps for the Allegheny River (which I will add as refs to the article shortly). Since Twelve Mile Island is apparently an inhabited place as well as the site of an undeveloped state park, I am not sure it should be merged here, but guess it would be OK it it were its own section of the article. I am OK with merging Fourteen Mile Island. So I guess I am OK with merging both articles here. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 14:31, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am going to go ahead and merge these articles now. Dincher (talk) 01:19, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
On second thought I am not exactly sure about the process of doing this. I am going to hold off for now. Dincher (talk) 01:23, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The articles have been merged. Dincher (talk) 23:40, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • The dam is on the NRHP and gives some history, including when the dam was built and the island being split. Thanks to Nyttend the NRHP form is here. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:47, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Finds like this make me realize that one could spend years and years improving these Pennsylvania state park articles and never run out of something to do. There's just tons of information out there waiting to be found! Dincher (talk) 01:52, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think this could be a GA without too much more work. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:59, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Footbridge proposals[edit]

Pier five of the former Allegheny River Turnpike Bridge has been proposed as a base for a footbridge, which would contribute to future development of the park. Another proposal was to save all bridge piers for a crossing; all, except number five, were recently demolished. All is One (talk) 21:20, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you have a reference for this information, please add it to the article. It's quite valuable. Dincher (talk) 22:01, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
See more information here. All is One (talk) 22:11, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I like the information, but I hesitate to add it to the article until plans are firmer. At this point it seems to be speculation and hope that the park may finally have access other than by boat. I will wait for replies from other editors, but I think that the "update" template should be removed from the article. Dincher (talk) 22:19, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for posting this - the article needs to be updated to reflect the destruction of the bridge, and I think the pier plans can be mentioned as it is a reliable source. I am busy tonight, but will try and add it in the next few days. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:13, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
