This article was the subject of an educational assignment in 2014 Q1. Further details were available on the "Education Program:University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)/American Working Class Movements (Fall 2014)" page, which is now unavailable on the wiki.

William Cahn, (1972), in A Pictorial History of American Labor, Crown Publishers, ISBN 978-0517500408, on page 126, notes:

Leaders of the American Miners' Association (AMA) and others, "accused of being Mollies, were arrested and charged with crimes... [amid] lurid newspaper sensationalism." (from Molly Maguires)

I suspect this is either a mis-identification of the union (perhaps it should be Workingmen's Benevolent Association of Schuylkill County), or perhaps these were former leaders of the American Miners' Association. Otherwise, i believe, there may be a date issue, since "the American Miners' Association ... ceased to exist in 1869."

I don't believe the lurid newspaper coverage occurred before 1875. Needs some research... Richard Myers 18:58, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
