[edit]Notability
[edit]It's a paper cup! Hyperdoctor Phrogghrus (talk) 18:14, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
I believe that the notability of the Anthora cup can be established by:
- Several news articles have been published over the years (see citations)
- Featured in many television shows & movies
- Continually edited & maintained article since 2007 by multiple authors
- WikiProject: New York City chose to include in their article index

[edit]@The Grid: I agree that "polyethylene-coated" doesn't belong in the lead -- that is well covered in the paper cup article, which we should link to. On the other hand, we have reliable sources that put the Anthora at the center of the transition from styrofoam to paper coffee cups, and they discuss the environmental issues, so the "Environment" section seems appropriate to me. I do not understand why you removed the material about Solo's role in its history and the notion that movies use it to "evoke Gotham at a glance". I don't particularly like the phrase "environmentally minded", but it is worthwhile mentioning the reason that ExceptionLab designed a ceramic replica, namely to critique the culture of disposable cups. Thoughts? --Macrakis (talk) 15:10, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- The source provided does not state when Solo acquired the trademark unless I am blind (and it's very possible I am). I searched through the U.S. Patents Office in the past week and did not see anything about Anthora from the creator or the company. If they're from the other New York Times articles, please cite them as such.
- My issue with some of the statements in the article is that they are "passerby" descriptions. For instance, what does "evoke Gotham at a glance" mean and is it significant to state when it's only one editor making this description? For the company ExceptionLab, I would at least mention it's an environmental minded product but not to use it as a description for the company on the first mention. Sorry, if it seems I was reverting your contribution because it's definitely a great addition and were some of the things I noticed when looking up about this design in the past 1-2 weeks. – The Grid (talk) 16:05, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
Layout
[edit]@The Grid: I reverted your edit because the front and side images were not of an Anthora cup at all, but of the ceramic replica. We now have a good image of the real paper Anthora cup. --Macrakis (talk) 17:01, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- Then would it be sufficient to replace the layout I have with those images? The text seems sandwiched with having the images on the ends. – The Grid (talk) 18:37, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- Feel free to reformat the Culture section and related images -- I admit that I'm not the best layout designer for Wikipedia! The images of the ceramic version should stay in the Culture section, and the original paper cup should be the main image at the top of the article. --Macrakis (talk) 20:56, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
