Economy section
[edit]I've made a start at editing the economy section. The numbers in the table were inconsistent, because the total in the GDP (PPP) column didn't match the sum of the other values in that column. The populations implied by "GDP (nominal) per capita" and "GDP (PPP) per capita" match pretty well, so I judge that the error was on the bottom row, and I've edited that value to agree with the others.
In two places, the section mentions that one of the member states is excluded from the combined Arab Maghreb Union economy. However, it doesn't say which member state is excluded, or whether the combined economy is something like a customs union/currency union or merely a statistical area. It also gives a value for the combined GDP (PPP) of those four member states as US$1.5276 trillion, but this isn't consistent with the $1.5761 trillion that was in the table (because it's US$48.4 billion less than the total for all five member states, but there's no member state with an economy of that size - it's between Libya's and Mauritania's, with neither being particularly close). Since I've edited the total GDP (PPP) for all five member states, the GDP (PPP) for the four member states is even less plausible, the total for four states is more than the total for five states, which is impossible.
The last sentence before the table says of Libya that it has "incomes exceeding US$65.803 per capita", but seems not to fit well with the table, whether we read it as "sixty-something USD per year" or "sixty-something thousand USD per year". (It might still be consistent with the table, depending on the time interval for the value for Libyan incomes.) It might be better if that sentence removed "exceeding" and specified whether it means "median annual income" or something else, but maybe the number should be updated first.
Where the numbers are inconsistent, possible causes include typos, currency conversions, and differing time intervals. Tim Ivorson 2023-09-05 10:44, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
