Ash's other family

I have a video at home from the beginning of the pokemon series, its a small promotinal video that has his aunt or grandmother, and also ash's teacher on there. Should this be added to the article, or is it pointless info to be put in?

Father?

But does Ash Ketchum have a father? 216.254.10.130 15:35, May 14, 2004 (UTC)

That's one of the greatest mysteries of Ash, Who is his father? Since he has never appeared pointed out, we don't know if he's even still around. There's a page at Pikasurf discussing that matter and speculating a little. The US Pokémon Company* has said that they wish to keep this matter a mystery, though.
"Who is Ash's father? Mr. Ketchum? Professor Oak? Giovanni? Pikachu? We’re not telling – there’s a lot of mystery surrounding who the father of Ash Ketchum is…and we want to keep it that way." -Pokémon.com's 11/22/2002 mailbag --Fern 19:00, May 14, 2004 (UTC)

Was Larvitar Part of Ash's Team?

Was Larvitar ever part of Ash's Team? This is an issue in the anime that we must put in this article in an NPOV manner.

Those who say yes cite that Larvitar opened itself to Ash, and Ash had commanded it to attack (Ash ordered Larvitar to use Hidden Power on TR on numerous occasions). Those who say no cite that Ash carried six Pokémon with him already (Bayleef, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Noctowl, Phanpy, and Pikachu - you see all seven Pokémon in a scene where Ash and his team are stuck in a TR truck), and that on numerous occasions they referred to Larvitar as a wild Pokémon (note the crowd at the foot of Mt. Silver where a lot of trainers wanted to catch it). Of course, we must consider other story factors such as the increasing divergence between the games and the anime.

Your thoughts?? kelvSYC 23:58, 22 May 2004 (UTC)

If Haunter is there, Larvitar deserves to be there. Ash had Larvitar for a number of episodes, so it is worth adding, but mentioning the above point that the matter is disputed. Sonic Mew 18:47, May 19, 2005 (UTC)
Well, no one has complained, so I've added Larvitar, though with this on the end: (Note that it is disputed whether Ash actually caught Larvitar.) Sonic Mew 08:54, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)

Then again, Ash rarely does "catch" his Pokemon. In the conventional sense anyway 58.105.184.143 00:25, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

In Poké Battles

In Red Version, although this wasn't in a "battle", Ash was eaten by a Mewtwo. This is known because it is mentioned numerous times, including once not long after when Mewtwo coughed up Ash's hat, and again in a scene in Red's "Black Version" (where KO'd characters go) where Ash criticized 3 Mewtwos, saying one of them was the reason he was there. (It was #2, which commented that he did taste good) (Unsigned comment by 198.107.38.90 (talk • contribs))

...wtf? Ketsy 01:36, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Could it have anything to do with this? Sonic Mew July 5, 2005 08:57 (UTC)
Yes it does. I'm amazed that somebody would put it here. Sabel4 July 5, 2005 3:25 (ECT)

Shippy paragraph needs work

Ash is credited with being part of an emotional crisis with girls. During the first seasons of the show, Misty has a large crush on him, despite their rivalry. Ash, however, either didn't notice, or didn't care. When the traditional group (Ash, Misty, and Brock) was forced to split up, he hurt Misty's feelings by not appearing to care very much, which caused her to flee amid tears. Ash himself was very confused. After returning to her job as Cerulean Gym Leader, Misty began to develop a growing friendship with Tracey Sketchit, and the beginnings of the same type of crush she still fostered for Ash grew on Tracey, as well. Meanwhile, separated from Misty, Ash began to realize he did indeed care about Misty and that he missed her a lot. Some fans speculate that when he returns to Kanto to see Misty (who is harboring feelings for both boys) he and Tracey will clash, resulting in a rivalry. While in the Hoenn region, however, May is developing a similar crush on Ash, though her feelings are not nearly as powerful as Misty's and she also has a crush on Drew seen when a pasing by fan of Drews who is also a coordinator mentioned it. Ash, however, seems to have noticed this time (perhaps because of the incident with the group splitup) and is returning the favor, to an extremely small degree. The debate on whether he will "end up" with Misty or May is one of the largest among fans, rivaled only by the question of who Ash's father is (see below).

This is largely speculation:
    • An emotional crisis with girls? He just doesn't notice them in the way Brock does most of the time!
    • "Gotta Catch Ya Later" is an interestng episode, which the paragraph doesn't get the full gist of. In fact, Ash later makes up, though seeing them as 'best friends'
    • Some people believe that Tracey and Misty became close, but others don't. I haver seen Pokémon Chronicles, and Misty thinks much more of Ash than Tracey. While Tracey, to me, looks like he is much closer to Daisy than Misty. In the Luvdisc episode, he is even invited by Daisy rather than Misty.
    • Ash doesn't think about Misty much in Hoenn, and I certainly don't see any evidence for him realising that he cares about Misty there.
    • Well, there certainly wasn't any clash when they were all together in the "Oak's Lab" episode.
    • A lot of people believe May has a crush on Ash, but this is still open to interpretation.
    • It isn't that she doesn't feel as strongly as Misy, just that she tends to stay more calm.
    • How is he "returning the 'favour'"?
The paragraph is summarised in this thread from Bulbagarden Forums:
Frankly, to me, that seems quite unfounded, and based on a hell of a lot of personal speculation, a good portion of which doesn't even match up to popular fanon, let alone canon.

I suggest deleting the whole thing. This is an online encyclopedia, not some speculative theory site. MasterXiam 00:02, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Shippers fail at life. Besides, this isn't Love Connection. 71.111.216.239 21:35, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

I have to agree with MasterXiam; shipping is a fanmade belief and has no basis in an encyclopedia built on fact. There should be no mention of any shippings in this article, or any other character article. MelicansMatkin 01:31, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

New AG Ash Picture

There was originally a picture depicting Advanced Generation Ash with the whole group. The image itself was moreso a duplicate of that on the Pokémon (anime) page, and so I decided to replace it with standalone art. If there are any complaints, revert it. Tetsuya-san 14:29, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

I have no complaints. Reusing pictures is alright, but one of Ash, rather than one of Ash, Brock, May, Max, etc, is better for this page. The only problem is the positioning of the template. Sonic Mew | talk to me 16:06, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

Anime Pictures

Do you not think pictures that are screenshots from the anime should be included for the pokemon that Ash has? Pokemon appear very different from the fixed versions in the video games. For Example, Ashes Snorlax could have lost some weight unlike fat Snorlaxes and ashes Lapras could be very young. --XenoNeon 18:48, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Ash's Snorlax fluctuates in size because of inconsistent animation, that's all. 68.47.234.131 20:25, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
That wasn't what I was really talking about. I meant that we should have a picture of the Pokemon in which it is depicted in the anime.--Young XenoNeon (converse) 09:11, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Should Ash's Pokemon Have Their Own Articles?

I have a neat idea on how Ash's pokemon could be composed.
If Ash's pokemon had seperate articles:

  • They could be more extensive than in Ash's article as a complete unit
  • It would "Clean up" Ash's article, which would provide more room for a more detailed discription of Ash
  • It would mention how Ash obtained/befriended/caught each of his pokemon as well as a detailed discription on each of his pokemon and how they evolved (if applicable)(per say.)
  • It could mention the gym battles in which each pokemon participated.

So what do you say fellow Wikipedians; should we do it?

Note: This would not be meant to rival Bulbapedia's articles on Ash and each of his pokemon.--Cabby2

Not really. Their notability is reflected in their own Pokémon species articles. --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 02:28, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia seems to have the view that having Ash's Pokémon be in separate articles may be going too far. WP:FICT is a very serious issue among Pokémon articles, and 300-odd Pokémon articles were once put up on AFD because many interpreted that having separate articles on Pokémon is considered fancruft (this is why we don't do episode synopses here - as it is, we're pushing our luck here with WP:FICT), and a separate article on TR's Meowth was eventually merged into Team Rocket. Sections of the articles for Ash's Pokémon could conceivably be put in, as they are by far the most notable of their species. kelvSYC 07:36, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Having a Wikipedia article about each Pokemon Species is going over the top in my view. --Young XenoNeon (converse) 19:04, 1 February 2006 (UTC)-

I have created a Pokeshipping section

A paragraph is simply not enough to truly represent this huge belief. The facts are there; it's not just fan-wishing. Please feel free to correct any mistakes I have made/left out and please, please, please add! I think that AAML deseves it's own section, so please don't just delete it. It's a very large, serious, world-wide topic. Someone should add this to the Misty page too. I will do it if no one has in a few days. Thanks!

The thing about this is that fan shipping is disputed - it is purely speculative fanbase information and therefore inappropriate for a Wikipedia article. Hence, while it is a large subject matter, it is not factual information. The section is a lot of work, true, but it's better suited to a fan page (and listed on a site like Dogasu's Backpack [2]). Hence, I've had to revert it due to its nature. --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 09:55, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
...Dogasu isn't a shipper. At any rate, PokéShipping has actually been confirmed (in Gotta Catch Ya Later and again in A Date With Delcatty) and so is not fanon. PokéShipping deserves a mention but only on Misty's page as it is one-sided and a part of her character. Sonic Mew 19:30, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
And having glanced at that section, it would need a lot of improvement anyway. For one thing, Pokemon.com isn't a reliable source and we don't know if Misty will be returning yet. Second, Misty's Song is not recognised as a hint by many PokéShippers who debate as it is American-made. Take a look at this PokéShipping page on Bulbapedia. Sonic Mew 19:40, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
There should be a separate article for shipping, so it doesn't take over this article like it has for some. Mentions would be fine, I suppose, but going in depth could be saved for the other article. Pokedork7876 22:11, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Introduction

Unless anybody has any objections, I'd like to move half of the introduction into a seperate section in the body entitled 'Ash's Story & Background'. Feel free to revert if there are any problems with my edit.--Nihon? 12:52, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Clothing Change?

Why did Ash get new clothes when he got into Hoenn? Is it naturally colder there? I don't get it. 71.111.215.224 22:24, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Advanced Generation is considered a separate series in Japan, and this may have been one of the factors in giving Ash and Brock new clothes. As far as I can tell, Ash's AG clothes are exclusively made for the series, with none of the game protagonists using this set. (Brock's, of course, was used in FRLG) kelvSYC 18:01, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

What did he do with the old ones? Maybe he outgrew them and donated them to charity. 71.111.216.239 16:26, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

I doubt that. Most probably he left them at home. -- A. Exeunt 01:28, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Fine, and according to an episode of Pokemon Chronicles, Brock's mom made Brock a new jacket. See, our argument worked out. That's probably what should've happened with Yugi during Dungeon Dice Monsters. 71.111.216.239 21:34, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Another less plausible explanation is that Ash keeps the old clothes throughout the new region in his backpack as spare clothes, or may have couriered them back home in some off-screen moment, or any number of hammerspace-related explanations. In either case, it could be argued that, at least for Sinnoh, Ash's new clothing may have a weather-related explanation, as it is colder in Sinnoh than Kanto or Hoenn... But the simplest explantion is that Pocket Monsters, AG, and DP are separate series, and thus they are obligated to give Ash and Brock new clothes, which are in the style of the default protagonist in Red/Blue but with a regional feel. kelvSYC 20:06, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Ash's Hoenn outfit looks strikingly similar to his Kanto/Johto outfit. What I mean is that his Hoenn outfit is like his Kanto outfit buttoned up. The only difference is the blue half-circle on his shirt and the black parts instead of white. His hat is different though. I like his Kanto outfit.

Satoshi?

Any reason the box-out calls him Satoshi and then mentions his "dubbed name" as an afterthought? This is for the English language Wikipedia so it's my opinion that the English language name should be used. The article is entitled Ash Ketchum, not Satoshi, and goes on to mention Ash in every paragraph with only passing reference to Satoshi overall. The other main characters are listed by their English names and so are the Pokémon. Ash should be no different. --L T Dangerous 22:19, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

The moves got lost...

Between the edit of "Booyabazooka" and "A Man in Black", two different IP addresses vandalized this page 5 times. However, the moves of the Pokemon got lost in the translation. Before the vandalizing, the moves were there, but after it was fixed, the moves still weren't there. I think they need to be restored as well.

I deleted the attacks intentionally. They're unencyclopedic, inane trivia, and often a source of equally inane edit wars. Please don't replace them. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:29, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Isn't Ash's episodes naked before Tv Tokyo broadcast?

Some imageboards like not4chan that I look has a Ash Ketchum naked. One comment said that the TV Tokyo's episode are edited. The actual Ash was naked when he is in water part of Pokemon episodes while the Tv Tokyo's are with shorts. In Japan, where he as known as Satoshi, he is popular as naked than in his shorts.

Can you verify this rumor in Japan? I just want to know it's true or false? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cashew23 (talkcontribs) 07:25, 23 May 2006.

Ash Once Died?

I know Ash got turned to stone in Pokemon: The First Movie, but doesn't the harbor manager's tale say the Pokemon's tears bring back the lives lost? This usage of lost clearly means "dead"; so didn't Ash really die that one time? I think it shows great strength in him to face death and come back. Jedi Striker 00:32, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Citation

I started citing and referencing for the article. As not to alienate a lot of pokefans who may not yet be hardcore Wikipedia editors, I'll just make a little explanaton. Because most of the information about Ash is in the anime itself, you can simply put a description between the < ref > and < / ref > tags. Ie. "Ash Ketchum's favourite color is the color red. He once owned a blue balloon, but he wished it was red < ref >Pokémon anime, episode 90007: Ash's mum gave him a blue baloon. Ash wished on Jirachi for it to turn red.< / ref >. It's important to have a lot of appropriate references, and it makes the entire article look more sophisticated. Compare to Pikachu which in my opinion is a very well written article. Just a bit of work and we can remove that ugly "this article doesn't cite its sources" template on the main page.

I'll just show you a proper example:

Ash Ketchum's favourite color is the color red. He once owned a blue balloon, but he wished it was red.[1]

Example References

  1. ^ Pokémon anime, episode 90007: Ash's mum gave him a blue baloon. Ash wished on Jirachi for it to turn red.

Yep. That's probably the worst example ever but it'll do. Happy editing. If you're not used to edting, don't be shy! All edits are encouraged and if you make a mistake or don't follow the format exactly, someone's bound to come along and fix it all up. Cheers! ~ZytheTalk to me! 20:26, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Atheist?

Well, Ash Ketchem is an atheist. He does not believe in God.

For example, let's say that he's a Catholic. I am sure they would at least show a scene where he is praying to God, saints, or the Virgin Mary, going to mass, or worrying about commiting a "mortal sin" if that is true. Since Ash does not display ANY religiousness (for any religion), it is safe to say he is an atheist.

That doesn't necessarly mean anything. Most fictional characters are prtryed without religion to make them more universal, but they are not necassarilly intended as atheists.

I removed Ash from the category of fictional athiests for the same reasons I discussed at Talk:Misty (Pokémon). --Brandon Dilbeck 21:32, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Well it is extremely unlikely that he is believes in a personal God. See: http://www.theud.com/pokecommunity/showthread.php?t=76112

Ok, there is not enough evidence to say that he is an atheist, as he could practice form of paganism or be a deist, but there is enough evidence to say that he does not follow a form of a Abrahamic religions. But if the writers did not think religion is relevant in the Pokémon anime, it is safe to say that it is an irrelevant aspect of Ash's life. Since religion is irrelevant to Ash, we can conclude that he is not a devout person.

How about that we simply add that he is not a religiously devout person instead? LinkinPark 20:30, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

All decisions reached on Misty's talk page will carry over to this article as well. If you can find sources saying that he is not a religiously devout person, then we can talk. In other words, come back with sources or don't come back at all. If you find sources, tell us at Misty's talk page, and I'll eat my arm and upload a picture for you. -- THL 00:35, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
By sources, I mean reliable, secondary sources. The anime is a primary source, and your interpretation of it is just that, your interpretation. That counts as original research, and putting it in the article based off of that violates one of the five pillars of Wikipedia, and will not be done. -- THL
Um... what does any of this have to do with anything? The S 03:34, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
My sentiments exactly. Its just that so many people jumped at this that A Man in Black had to protect the Misty article. I'm just trying to solve a problem before it starts again here. -- THL 04:24, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

I think the Pokémon, or at least the legendarys, are "god-like." But as for real religion, there have been several Christmas Episodes as well as a Christmas CD (Although I doubt the CD is in Canon). Kirby Oak 21:34, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

That is for the sake of Western children; hence the criticism Pokémon has received for becoming too "Americanized". The creator is a buddhist. As for the legendaries, they aren't god-like, just rare and powerful. Would the god of the ice take orders from a mere mortal?-- THLCCD 21:55, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

This is really stupid. Obviously the original poster wanted to either make a bad joke or is really dumb. Ash is a fictional character and as a cartoon doesn't have a life that is shown in a detailed way on screen (including religious/spiritual live or viewpoints). Not to mention that the definition of atheism is already wrong in the first place. I didn't see Ash taking a crap (luckily), but that doesn't mean he doesn't have digestion. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 213.196.213.122 (talk)

Because no one has added it. Besides, I couldn't call one episode a notable role. --Sonic Mew 15:03, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Raticate and Haunter.

If we are going to include Haunter we should include the Raticate he traded for Butterfree. It should also be noted that the above two are the only pokemon "owned" by Ash not shown in Spurt. trainra 01:14, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

We won't include them, they're too trivial. Cheers, The Raven's Apprentice (Talk|Contribs) 03:44, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Why were the pokemon that Ash owns/befriened/traded etc. been removed? trainra 22:50, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

No idea, but I reverted it. The lists are part of all character articles, and if their removal ought to be discussed first in the Project Talk Page. Cheers, The Raven's Apprentice(Profile|PokéNav|Trainer Card) 03:17, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Buizel

There have been rumors floating around that Ash will catch a Buizel before Pokemon Movie # 10, rather like Brock's Happiny. Sinnoh Clothes

Recently, I noticed Ash's Sinnoh sirt looks similar to the male protagionists shirt from diamond and pearl, when the scarf is out of the way, at least in the English intro, may have been a trick of light, anyone else see that?68.185.192.83 18:13, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Movies ?!

Um, should there be any information on Ash's role in the movies? First one, yeah, one of the trainers invited to the island, got in between Mew and Mewtwo in an attempt to get them to stop fighting, got turned to stone, was revived by Pokemon tears, made by Mewtwo to forget what happened. But in the second one, he was The Chosen One, saved the world by bringing the stones to the shrine, and met Lugia. That's kind of major (even if it seems to be non-canon, because TV-Lugia couldn't talk psychically, etc.) so should the movies at least be MENTIONED? I mean, the Pocket Monsters magna available only in Japan got a mention, and the article doesn't even go past leaving Pallet Town. Sorry if this has already been debated (I don't see it on the Talk page), or if it's too minor, but still... 169.229.121.94 00:44, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Well, the movies fit within the continuity of the anime, so there probably no need to add a section on Ash's portrayal in the films, but we could add his role in these films in the anime section. This article apperantly has a bunch a problems, seeing that it has had those three tags at the heading of the article for long time now, and I've never known the best way the fix it, either. 206.66.217.144 19:21, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

That's because he did obtain those Pokemon and gave them away yet yours is a fat lie you totally made up. We're not idiots, this never happened. Don't you watch Pokemon? --Naruto134 00:00, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry. I'm not the one who put it there. It had just been around for so long that I thought it really happened. I didn't know, cause I don't watch Pokemon, since Ash is such a huge idiot. So, sorry again. I thought he had caught one cause it was up for a while and nobody changed it.65.34.13.144 18:45, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Actually, it's not a lie. He actually DID catch a Seaking, but he most likely released it at the end of the same episode (possibly because the rules of that activity (the Seaking Fishing one) stated they should do so.). He caught it in Hook, Line, and Stinker, the same episode that Misty caught her Seaking, and released it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.32.193.216 (talkcontribs).

Ash's Voice Actor for series 9 and 10

Hi

I was researching Ash's voice actor for seasons 9 and 10. The Ash Ketchum here states it's Jamie Peacock, but when clicked on it is redirected to Mona Marshall. However, under her list of voice roles Ash isn't one of them. When clicking on Jamie Peacock the first option says in brackets Kayzie Rogers, and when I typed in Kayzie Rogers I got the right page - and sure enough, she is listed as playing Ash Ketchum. What I was wondering about was whether this was a faulty link, or whether the information on either Mona Rogers', Ash Ketchum's or Kayzie Rogers' pages are wrong. Shouldn't this be changed? Thanks for your time.

86.132.200.107 17:33, 4 June 2007 (UTC) Alice

Nope, Kayzie Rogers isn't Mona Marshall. The links seem to be working fine now. Cheers, The Raven's Apprentice(Profile|PokéNav|Trainer Card) 06:46, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Age?

As of now seeing how Ash is in this new region of the pokemon world does anybody know his current age or what it mostly-likely may be? I ask this because its interesting to know that after him getting his last Johto Badge that hes 13 so by now he must be like 15-17 years old right? I have to be close. Deblow 19:25, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

It has been partly been confirmed that Ash is 15 years old.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.178.192.53 (talkcontribs)

Nope, he is still ten. Need I remind you that the Official Japanese website stated that May is the same age as Ash? So unless they were insinuating that they made a mistake when writing the episode and insinuated on the site that May was actually 13 years old and not ten as they said in the episode, he is still ten. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.32.208.210 (talkcontribs)

Well, actually there have been over 500 episodes, each lasting a day or more. In fact, most of Ash's journies have not been shown (An example is pokemon chronicles). This would mean that he must have at least aged once. Also, in Pikachu and Pichu it is said to be Ash and Pikachu's one year reunion. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.81.252.24 (talkcontribs).

Yes, but in the first Hoenn episode, set after Pikachu and Pichu, May is said to be 10 and and the Japanese website declared Ash's the same age as May. Looks like Ash's gonna stay 10 no matter how many years pass by. --The Raven's Apprentice (PokéNav|Trainer Card) 03:01, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

I believe that Ash is 14 maybe 13 now do to fact of 4 generations past.Nightwolf3000 13:18, September 21 2007 (UTC)

Originally in this anime ash(or satoshi as the japanese call him) at the begining was 14, But when the series came to other countries like America, they wanted to make the show more focused on little children, so they changed his age to 10. To keep the show more kid-friendly the editors of the series reduced the ages of many of the shows characters , causeing some comfusion among long-time fans. So Ash has really been a teenager all this time, but was dubbed to still be a pre-teen. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sumter (talkcontribs) 21:13, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Pokemon Adventures Manga isn't the only source that confirms who Giovanni's Son is...

Ok, the article said something along the lines that Giovanni's Son was confirmed to be his son in the Pokemon Adventures Manga, though it doesn't have bearing in the anime. However, it isn't the only one that confirms it, Firered and Leafgreen also somewhat confirmed it as well, from this dialogue from the fame checker: Scientist: You! You're not Giovanni's Kid, are you!? No, it can't be, Giovanni's Kid has Red Hair...". so it should be worth noting in that article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.32.223.47 (talk)

It does in the Giovanni (Pokémon) article. As for this one, it should be enough to say that Pokémon Live hints Giovanni isn't Ash's father, and leave the son's identity to Giovanni's page. --The Raven's Apprentice (PokéNav|Trainer Card) 03:01, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Award for most overedited combinded with most insignificant page of all Wikipedia?

I am just a casual user/editor of Wikipedia, but this page (the main and the discussion page) shows what is wrong with Wikipedia.

Something so utterly inconsequential as a rubbish (I know, POV) character in a rubbish anime show getting such a huge page AND vandalism protection is utterly ridiculous and greatly hurting the credibility of the whole Wikipedia project! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.249.45.148 (talk) 13:16, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Important...

K, 3 things:

One: this page is really long, can we get an archive? two: in DP52(check Bulbapedia) Paul will release his Chimchar and Ash will catch it. three: About Ash's age, it's impossible for time to pass in the anime, because, say 5 years pass. Brock would be 20. Run rings round your logicry. (Intercourse the penguin)

Just sayin' 71.123.206.217 03:09, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

I don't see why an archive can't be done; you're quite right, this talk page is very long and needs to be archived, but I'll leave it to an editor who is more knowledgeable about such things. It's true that summaries have stated that Paul will release his Chimchar which Ash will then catch, but as this has not yet happened it would be improper to add it into the article until the episode actually airs. As for your third point, isn't it stated in the article that Pokemon takes place in a floating timeline? MelicansMatkin 16:25, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Chimchar

Please do not add Chimchar to Ash's team. As the episode in question has not yet aired, it is still OR. We cannot use the Japanese scans as references, and fansites such as Bulbapedia, Serebii, or Poke Beach are not reliable resources because they are fansites. The information can be put up AFTER it has happened. MelicansMatkin 18:09, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

We cannot use the Japanese scans as references, and fansites such as Bulbapedia, Serebii, or Poke Beach are not reliable resources because they are fansites. I do not agree what you have said... Not reliable even their sources is from Japan... Try Japanese Wikipedia...And you will find out why Chimchar must be added. Take note: Pokemon is a Japanese anime not a American cartoon... Think again.Cashew23 02:20, 12 October 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cashew23 (talkcontribs)
Why can't the Japanese scans be used as references? They are as reliable as you can get. --Sonic Mew 02:46, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
The point in question is the episode hasn't aired yet. As in, Ash doesn't own Chimchar at present whether we know he will or not.—Loveはドコ? (talkcontribs) 02:48, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for rephrasing my point for me Urutapu. As for my point on using the Japanese scans, I quote from Wikipedia:Verifiability: Because this is the English Wikipedia, for the convenience of our readers, English-language sources should be used in preference to foreign-language sources, assuming the availability of an English-language source of equal quality, so that readers can easily verify that the source material has been used correctly. Keep in mind that translations are subject to error, whether performed by a Wikipedia editor or a professional, published translator. In principle, readers should have the opportunity to verify for themselves what the original material actually said, that it was published by a credible source, and that it was translated correctly. Therefore, when the original material is in a language other than English: Where sources are directly quoted, published translations are generally preferred over editors performing their own translations directly. Where editors use their own English translation of a non-English source as a quote in an article, there should be clear citation of the foreign-language original, so that readers can check what the original source said and the accuracy of the translation. MelicansMatkin 15:34, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

I'd like to note that while Paul has now released Chimchar and Ash has asked it if it would like to join him, Chimchar has not yet been captured by Ash. Until the next episode airs, Chimchar should not be listed as being a part of Ash's team. MelicansMatkin 02:36, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Well I can accept your terms for footage based reasons or there is also the fact that they don't always show Ash catching the Pokemon directly with a Pokeball. If I remember correctly didn't the same thing happened with Squirtle back in the first season. I have to admit that this style used in the show would definitely create issues of verifiability when they don't show Ash using the Pokeball. But either way I will be supporting the general concensus, but If there is a way to find someone to translate this offical material, it would be great or we can wait till the next available episode to verify this. -Adv193 19:19, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
