21st century Ashiks

[edit]

There should be sources for the Ashiks of the 21st century, I couldn't find, for example, an authentic verification for Ashik M S.--Wuttgenstein (talk) 19:56, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Too many pictures!

[edit]

This article has 15 pictures, far more than necessary or appropriate, especially for small mobile devices such as smartphones, where the reader has to scroll down past all fifteen, one by one, to reach the text.

The first two feature traditional folk instruments used by ashiks. These are appropriate to the topic:

  • Bağlama
  • A stamp of Qavals

Seven are images of individual named ashiks. Five of these can be moved to the article about the specific ashik pictured:

The remaining two ashiks shown as individuals have no English article and are linked to the Farsi (Persian) Wikipedia. These should be similarly considered for deletion:

Some of them show ashiks playing in various circumstances; listed by caption:

  • An ashik performance in Tabriz
  • Playing Bağlama or Saz in Eurovision Song Contest 2012
  • Playing Balaban and Qavals in Eurovision Song Contest 2012
  • An ashik performance during Nowruz in Baku

The first of these shows three men in traditional dress, apparently on a city sidewalk, playing traditional instruments and possibly singing as well, with microphones on tripods. In the second, ashiks are accompanying a singer; in the third, a dancer. IMO the first is appropriate, showing ashiks fulfilling their traditional function in a modern environment, but one or both of the Eurovision pictures should go.
