"Most Records" is not a Guinness category

[edit]

The article on the Guinness Book of World Records states that the publishers do not track the person with the most records. If this is so, I suggest changing the text from (in essence) "holder of the record for the most records" to (in essence) "person with a lot of records."

Am I wrong? I don't have a copy of the book, so I can't verify any of this. Lord Geznikor 17:36, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He just got his 100th simultaneous record. [1] - Calvin —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.179.88.114 (talk) 20:58, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

→ It says here: [2] that it is a record to hold the most records. And it also says that he has 245, not just 237. 99.67.93.67 (talk) 21:06, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Implicit in the article is the sense that these records are somehow, and/or make him, noteworthy. There are dozens of his frivolous, one-off 'records' that nobody would bother to emulate. How do you hold a 'record' for something that never actually surpassed anyone else's accomplishment? Right now, I happen to be chewing a piece of gum. Suppose I took it out of my mouth and hurled it through the door into the next room and it stuck on the wall? Would that be a 'record'?

Dan holds the world distance record for gum-hurling into another room and it sticking to the wall.

Suppose I stacked a half-dozen 78 rpm phonograph recordings between two books and broke them with a karate-chop?

Dan single-handedly smashes 6 old records in 20 milliseconds.

One could take the whole thing in the other direction: It should be an anti-accomplishment to hold the greatest number of silly 'records'; and I suspect his main objective is the publicity all this has given to his health-food store. JohndanR (talk) 04:18, 22 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
