No apparent reason for redirect

[edit]

If only by virtue of its international scope (it comprises 205 national Olympic committees (NOCs) recognized by the International Olympic Committee and five continental associations) ANOC seems notable enough as a stand-alone article. If I want to know something about ANOC, I don't want to have to read through the article on NOCs. The fact that the page is little more than a stub is not necessarily a criterion for merging it. Nor is the fact that you and I may consider it a white elephant... Please discuss here rather than simply reverting. Let's at least go for consensus. --Technopat (talk) 07:55, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Being a stub may not alone be cause for merge but its complete redundancy is. There is absolutely no reason to have an article that contains zero unique information and is entirely redundant to the main article. Just being international doesn't mean anything special, and there is no reason why notable information cannot be covered in the main article, even if more were added. If you don't want to read through the still-short main NOC article, this can link to National Olympic Committee#Divisions, which can be renamed to better cover the ANOC. When there was something this tiny that hasn't been edited in five years, I wasn't going to wait for someone else to see the talk page. Reywas92Talk 08:57, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Rather than a simple redirect, which is usually used for when there are alternative titles (as opposed to pages with content, however "tiny" they may be – that's what the stub tag is there for...), I reckon the community should reach consensus on whether to merge it with the NOC article or not. That said, I really don't see why the Wikipedia in English should be the only one to choose to include it in the NOC article when at other Wikipedias (Deutsch, Español, Français, 日本語, Nederlands, and Русский) it is considered worthy of being a stand-alone article. --Technopat (talk) 00:08, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
