Deletion ?

[edit]

For someone to suggest that this page is dubious while the Athletic sports page is okay is blasphemy. Athletic sports is a barely a stub. This page has been approved by the project's manager.TommyKirchhoff (talk) 18:33, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merge with Athletics

[edit]

I have proposed a merge with Athletics on that talk page.TommyKirchhoff (talk) 13:35, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Although the closing result of the nomination for deletion was "Redirect to sport", I'm going to circumvent that decision a little and merge some of the content with Athletic sports, which I shall have moved to Athletics (US). Here's why:
Three editors (including myself) appeared to have some agreement on this decision. A fourth (Location) said to redirect to sport, but also stated the topic was already covered at athletic sports, further justifying a merge. The original deletion nomination explicitly said that the pre-existence of athletic sports was a reason why the (overview) article was surplus to requirements.
Thus, all but one editor involved in the discussion acknowledged, in one way or another, that the information covered at Athletics (overview) should be covered at Athletic sports. I think having the Athletics disambiguation leading primarily to Athletics (sport) and Athletics (US) accurately reflects the two distinct uses of the word "Athletics", which is the entire reason why we need the main topic disambiguation in the first place. Also, I think we all can agree that the previous titles of the two topics – "Athletics (sport)" and "Athletic sports" – do not aid the reader in distinguishing the difference of which is which. I'm OK with all of this. Location (talk) 15:11, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
