Background and "favorites" are opinion

The concept of "favorites" to a competition like this is highly subjective and opinion based. Unless a specific credible source is cited "According to ... the favorites were", I believe that part should be removed. Even after that, if Salazar was a favorite because he won NY Marathon and Boston 2 years before, shouldn't the previous years winners Rod Dixon be also on the list?

One way to write that is just to quote facts, like "major marathon winners at start:" JCCJCC2012 (talk) 18:16, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
