Help people find your article[edit]

Someone looking for this company might search on ART, or misspell it as Avatar Repertory Theatre. The first leads to a disambiguation page - I suggest you should add this there under "Performing arts". The second is currently a red link: you can make a "Redirect" there, so that anyone who absentmindedly uses the UK spelling will still find it. With most articles I'd have done both of these myself if I came across the article, but this is suppposed to be educational so I'll leave it to you! Good luck and happy editing. Editor COI Disclosure (Ikmac)[edit]

Just to introduce myself, I am Iain McCracken, one of the founders of ART. So far, my edits to this page have been to add my name and my co-founder's name to the founders (now History) section, and add a link to the official website. When PamD noted that they weren't on the official website, I corrected the official website, and added them back.

It has been pointed out to me on my usertalk page that these additions to the information on the page may be a conflict of interest. I've looked at the article, and am not sure how, though. If anyone could help me understand, that would be appreciated.

Thanks, PamD, for all your heavy editing, bringing the article a little closer to Wikipedia standards!

Hello Iain - and thanks for your contributions! I think you're doing the right thing with regards to any COI issues. Have a look at Wikipedia:Plain_and_simple_conflict_of_interest_guide and I'm sure you'll see what makes me say so. --ToniSant (talk) 17:36, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright and production rights for ART performances[edit]

Today (Oct 28, 2012), I modified the list of performances on the page, specifically to provide proper attribution of the sources we used for the performances, and in one case to specifically indicate the production rights we had. I felt that it was necessary to add this information to make the copyright status of our adaptations and our rights to perform the works clear.

  • Mr Sycamore was adapted directly from the Robert Ayres novella, and not from any of the plays, movies, or other works produced since then.
  • The two Alice productions were adapted directly from the two novels by Lewis Carroll, and not from any other productions, ie Disney or Tim Burton movies.
  • Our production of Howard Barker's 13 Objects was part of the 21for21 Barker Festival event. Rights to perform the work were granted only as part of that event, for a specific time and date assigned to us by the event organizers. We were not granted rights to perform the work at any other time or place.
  • Tales and Buffet were performances of original works. In the case of Buffet the works were submitted as part of a contest where it was made clear to the contestants that they were granting rights to a run of performances. In the case of Tales the works were provided by troupe members and one outside author, with handshake agreements that they would be used for one run of performances.

Governance Section?[edit]

ART is a project of New Media Arts, Inc, which is a nonprofit corporation registered in the US. The official website has the following in the sidebar of its public pages:

Avatar Repertory Theater is a project of New Media Arts, Inc., a nonprofit organization tax exempt under IRC 501(c)(3); EIN 27-2500171. Our mission is to develop graphical, theatrical, literary, library, and other fine and practical arts in online and virtual reality platforms.

I think it's appropriate to put a section in the article indicating this governance relationship, as NMA handles various legal and fiscal issues, such as legal ownership of the name "Avatar Repertory Theater" out in the real world, grants and grant applications, etc. I have created a stub page hanging off my sandbox for NMA, but because NMA is an umbrella that hosts projects such as ART, I'm not sure it satisfies the noteworthiness criterion for having a full-citizen article on its own.

What is the proper Wikipedia way of putting this governance information in the article? --Ikmac (talk) 20:49, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
