Name should be BTV Chattogram[edit]

@Ilhamnobi: The name should be "BTV Chattogram". Talk:Chittagong#Changing_the_name_to_Chattogram doesn't apply here. Do not translate official name (see official spelling), instead name should be transliterated. For same reason we don't call Desh TV as "Country TV" in English or My TV (Bangladesh) as "Amar TV" in Bangla. See for example Chattogram Challengers. --আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 17:19, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

But most reliable sources use 'BTV Chittagong'. I'll rename it to Chattogram if Wikipedia agrees to use it in its official article. Ilhamnobi (talk) 00:33, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ilhamnobi: BTV Chattogram is a proper noun here, we should not translate it. There is also reliable sources which uses BTV Chattogram, like the daily star, bdnews24.com, the daily independent, new age etc (Bengali news site obviously used bengali name). Their official facebook page (it is linked here), youtube channel uses BTV Chattogram. TV's logo uses BTV Chattogram. If i search for BTV Chattogram on google, i got more hit than BTV Chittagong. @Worldbruce and Vinegarymass911: Any advice? --আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 19:30, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources).
Up until April 2018, when NICAR declared the new English spelling for the district, all sources used BTV Chittagong. An example is The Financial Express (2017). Some sources continued using it, such as Dhaka Tribune 1Dhaka Tribune 2 (2019, 2021). Other sources switched to BTV Chattogram, for example: bdnews24.com (2019), New Age (2019), The Independent (2020), The Daily Star (2020) and BSS (2021). (Facebook and YouTube aren't independent, so they don't count.)
My advice is to state both names in the article. Only move the article after a majority of the cited sources use BTV Chattogram. That's a stronger condition than Wikipedia sets, but I think it will avoid confusion and argument. --Worldbruce (talk) 23:00, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
