Plenty of ways to spell, "El" vs. "Al", the caps on those, whether or not to hyphenate, and "Shatti" (more common) vs. "Shatty". Maybe an article move is in order too. ClaudeReigns (talk) 20:21, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done. ClaudeReigns (talk) 17:43, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]
  • Bashar Al Shatti/Shati (Yala Music)
  • Bashar al-Shatti (Naomi Sakr)
  • Bashar al-Shatti (Kuwait Music)
  • Bashar Al Shatti (MSN Pakistan)
  • Bashar Al-Shatti (Kuwait Times)
  • Bashar al-Shatti (SUNY)

Spellings are almost completely consistent. None use ending y. Capitalization and hyphenation are widely different, even among the most authoritative sources. Will check other Kuwaiti names across WP for the conventional use here. ClaudeReigns (talk) 02:17, 13 December 2012 (UTC) Among Kuwaiti people of Iranian descent, "Al-" is consistent. This agrees with the Kuwait Times. ClaudeReigns (talk) 02:20, 13 December 2012 (UTC) Found new peer reviewed source. "Bashar al-Shatti" per Naomi Sakr and per Marwan M. Kreidy. Nom name change below.[reply]

Nominating name change from "Bashar Al Shatty" to "Bashar al-Shatti"

Anyone object? ClaudeReigns (talk) 03:47, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that we should go with the y. Checking google hits, there are ten times as many with a y ending as with an i ending. And then, I would suggest consistency within the article (unless we are facing a quote). Thanks for suggesting this.--Epeefleche (talk) 05:43, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
