Titu Talks

On 15, December 2018, Bhuvan Bam released a new series called "Titu Talks"[1] with Shahrukh Khan as his first guest. In the first episode, BB dressed up as his character Titu and interviewed SRK in his own unique way. As of 17th December 2018, the video has over 10 Million video views and over 1 million likes. Removal of Subscribers and Views

@Cyphoidbomb: My contention is twofold. One this information becomes outdated faster than most and unlike some areas there's really no stop to it, and, most importantly, that information is itself unreliable and misleading. For instance here is the New York Times on how easy it is to have fake views. Here is Variety on YouTube removing fake subscribers. Here's the New York Times again on how easy it is for robot views to be had. Here NY Mag suggests companies on the whole are struggling with this issue. I could go on, but I think there is enough evidence that subscriber counts have been manipulated in the recent past that we should not be including this information in this article. Subscriber counts and video views are simply inherently unreliable and misleading information and don't belong in our articles. Even though it's interesting - lots of unreliable information is interesting. Given the repeated, continuous, manipulation of subscriber counts and video views on YouTube, I think despite the interest factor they don't belong in our articles. Full stop. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 03:52, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

@Barkeep49: Thanks for the note. This is a much bigger discussion to have than at Bhuvan Bam. If you want to lobby for removal of the data from infoboxes, you should argue for its removal at Template talk:Infobox YouTube personality (and you might consider a Request for Comment). And since the Infobox typically summarises content found elsewhere in the article, if you wanted to petition for the removal of this content from YouTuber articles in general, you should hash that out with WikiProject YouTube. To put things into perspective, the only reason why we have an article about Bhuvan Bam or Pewdiepie or any of these people is because they are notable for some reason, and if you remove the subscriber and viewership content entirely, you are removing context for readers to understand why these people are notable. Anyway, being a lone crusader on a mission to strip data from articles because of flaws in the counting system is a serious uphill battle to wage. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:13, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb: Thanks for your response as well. They are not notable because they have YouTube subscribers - we have no YouTube SNG they are meeting (and yes I know this slightly mischaracterizes what a SNG is). They are notable because reliable sources tell us they are generally notable. If there is reliable information of interest to their readers, such as a RS telling us that they are the first Indian to do something on YouTube that is of interest to readers (as it was with their being the first to 10 million subscribers) sure let's include that. However, our readers are given plenty of information about Bam and what he does which is notable, without misleading and unreliable statistics which are out of date as soon was post it. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 04:27, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
@Barkeep49: Lol, I don't know what an SNG is. That said, YouTubers are notable because reliable sources consider them notable, but their notability is directly related to their viewership and reach. Nobody is going to care about the cultural contributions that Pewdiepie made. He's not an artist, he's not a politician, he's not an architect, he's a dude who live streams nonsense. The only reason why we care about him is because he is super popular. Anyway, without getting too distracted, while your edit is bold, if you want to affect change on a greater scale, you'll need to argue these views with other members of the community. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:41, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
Except that the "community" only has consensus so far as it's common on pages. Editors can, therefore, enact a consensus on any individual page that is different. You and I are not some helpless bystander here - as I indeed showed with my BOLD edit - and so we can collaboratively act in a way that benefits the encyclopedia. I would suggest that we remove the user of these numbers on this page that have not been backed by a reliable secondary source should be removed. This would mean removing them from the infobox - but again leaving the 10 million subscribers bit. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 04:55, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
Unless you can demonstrate specifically that Bhuvan Bam's subscriber and/or viewer count has been artificially inflated, I do not support a removal of the content. A general argument that some people pay to have their figures fudged is insufficient to warrant the exclusion of this specific person's figures. Prove that he's fudging, and we can have the discussion again. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 05:14, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
I think it's entirely fair to say that we should not be citing views except from what reliable sources tell us. YouTube, as demonstrated above, is not a reliable source, not even under the relaxed standards of WP:SELFPUB. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 03:53, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
I'm not here to argue the merits of whatever perspective you have, but you are exercising a broad objection to YouTube as a reliable source of data on its own network, with some expectation that secondary sources are going to get better data somehow? I don't even understand that approach, buuut, as previously noted, if you want to suppress YouTube's self-reported data from the infobox and article body, you're going to need to argue for that exclusion in a wider venue, (or plural wider venues) since the community preference should prevail until a different consensus is achieved, and I don't think you've argued successfully for a different consensus. Kinda feel like I've said that before... Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:24, 3 February 2019 (UTC)

==YouTube career==

In 2014, he uploaded “The Chakhna Issue” as his first YouTube video which managed to collect only 10 to 15 views. Later on, Bhuvan Bam deleted the video but it was re-uploaded by the fans. He further uploaded one sarcastic video of a news reporter who asked a woman insensitive questions regarding the death of her son due to the Kashmir floods, Overnight, the video went viral in Pakistan and he woke up to the popularity of his video. In June 2015, he debuted with his YouTube channel. Currently, he is one of the fastest-growing YouTube stars.[1] Vitesh Kotian (talk) 06:19, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
