Proposed rename
[edit]- I am considering renaming this article Bill Te Kahika Jr. as well as moving the dad's article from Billy TK to Billy Te Kahika. Te Kahika would be their full and formal names. I think as an encyclopedia, we should use their formal names. Just wanted to get other people's advice before I proceed. Andykatib 03:16, August 30, 2020 (UTC)
- The guidance is to use commmon recognisable names (rather than necessarily legal names) eg Bono not Paul Hewson or J. K. Rowling not Joanne Rowling. See WP:COMMONNAME for more details. From the sources I have seen, the father is most commonly called 'Billy TK' and the son is most often called 'Billy Te Kahika', so those are the names I would use for the two articles. HenryCrun15 (talk) 05:23, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
- Indeed. We need to use the common name, and that may well be different from the legal / formal name. Schwede66 05:36, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
- Okay, no worries. Thanks for the clarification. Best to stick to their most common names. Created the Billy TK Jr. article given the high media coverage and public interest in him and his party though not for the best reasons as we know. Andykatib (talk) 05:39, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
- If we do move Bill TK Jr. to Billy Te Kahika, his father's article redirects to that lnk. Howe do we resolve that issue? Andykatib 08:33, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
- That apparently is easy to do according to WP:MOR. HenryCrun15 (talk)

- I went through the 30 sources currently in the article to see what the subject is most commonly called. I found that the most commonly used name is "Billy Te Kahika" (17 of 30 used this somewhere), whereas "Billy TK Jr" (or Jnr or Junior) was used in 10 articles. "Billy Te Kahika Jr" (or Jnr or Junior) was used in 7 and "Billy TK" in 2. Generally, older articles (which tend to be about him as a musician) used "Billy TK Jr", while newer articles (which are about him as a politician) use "Billy Te Kahika". Give that "Billy Te Kahika" is both the most common form and the one typically used in recent article, I suggest either:
- Move the Billy TK Jr. article to Billy Te Kahika
- Make the Billy Te Kahika article a disambiguation page and rename Billy TK Jr. to Billy Te Kahika (politician)
- Make the Billy Te Kahika article a disambiguation page and keep Billy TK Jr. as is.

- Hi HenryCrun15, thanks for researching this issue. Since Billy Te Kahika is his most commonly used name, it will make sense to move the article to Billy Te Kahika. But let's see what the others think as well. Andykatib 02:28, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
- As there was no further discussion, I asked an administrator to make the move, going with Option 1 above. HenryCrun15 (talk) 03:11, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks HenryCrun15 for organising this. Good to reflect the media sources. Andykatib 10:36, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
Billy TK and conspiracies
[edit]So there has been IPs putting conspiracy theorist into the lede on this page. I'm inclined to agree with them but its very non-WP:NPOV and most WP:BLP have a high criteria for adding what can be seen as controversial information. So what is others thoughts, It seem he started with the conspiracy and that lead into the New Zealand Public Party which he formed and is now quite known for, as you can see from this article here. This is from a local paper, only three weeks after the party formed. It does seem to be backed up by more sources now with this, this, this and this all showing not only is the NZPP into conspiracies, but he is the cause and the leading of those ideas. So while it is mentioned in the article under Political career, I wonder if it should be in the lede now as well. Kind of why the party gets as much media attention as they do, is because of this stuff he is saying. NZFC(talk)(cont) 04:02, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
- I would say it definitely belongs there.--Pokelova (talk) 06:10, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
- While there has been no more discussion on this, there is clearly enough sources on this and even a new one yesterday from the Newsroom. Him being into conspiracies is in the article, so am adding to the lede as well. NZFC(talk)(cont) 18:52, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
Stuff Investigation Articles
[edit]I know Billy and NZPP supporters will say it's a Character Assassination and in the interview he does denied some of the allegations put to him but I'll first remind anyone reading this we follow reliable sources and New Zealand media like Stuff and NZ Herald are considered reliable even if you don't like it and don't think they are. Now that said, how do others feel we add the information in the articles/video from the Stuff Investigation? Keeping in mind WP:BLP. False Profit, anti-semitic and truth They list the following allegations that have pulled from first read and listen:
- Lied about Army experience including the fight he had during his service
- Lied about his recruitment and why it ended with the Police
- Both Army and Police time and what he did, he lied about on his CV
- Is an Anti-Semitic (Has lots of Jewish friends though)
- Doesn't pay his bills, stiffed a fellow artist on recording, only paid for the tour (Though could be more a contract dispute)
- Multiple accounts of not paying people and organisations in the music industry, all denied by TK.
- World Indigenous festival, which is mention on the page already, the unauthorised use of Sport NZ and Auckland Transport logos and Sport NZ didn't back the event but only paid for a feasibility study
- Pilot programme for Solar in Samoa that he said had government banking
Edit: See @IdiotSavant: has been bold and added some already which I'm happy with. Just know some of this information may need to be discussed. NZFC(talk)(cont) 21:46, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
- I think that it will be good to integrate this information into the article while still following Wikipedia policies. We need to state the facts as they are while still being fair and balanced. To avoid people deleting content, perhaps raising the edit level to auto-confirmed might minimise that problem. Andykatib 9:48, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

Thisquality
[edit]Wondering whether we should be citing thisquality.com as it seems to also post 1080 conspiracy theory content and isn't a news outlet I'm familiar with?
