Student Life

[edit]

It seems that a lot of people have a problem with matter included under the section "student life". Although a certain amount of decorum and propriety must be maintained while editing an encyclopedic article, sections such as "student life", due to their inherent nature, would very rarely have verifiable external sources and links. In such a situation, a compromise must be made between avoiding unnecessary and self-generated information, from that which is generally universal, although in certain cases may be without external references. For example, the fact that students are expected to be back on campus by 10 30 every day is a known and established fact, nevertheless it cannot be sourced since none of the official web links list this rule. As mentioned below, Wikipedia is generally the first choice of information for many people nowadays, and it is really difficult to exclude such vital piece of information from "student life". As far as Tnxman307, I respect your desire to make the article more astute by removing unsourced material, but we cannot, in this way, delete entire sections which are vital to the page. Please discuss your objections here before making such sweeping changes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Batram (talkcontribs) 16:22, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but if you cannot provide a reliable source, the material should be removed. Saying things like "is a known and established fact" doesn't help. For example, I do not attend this campus. How am I supposed to know this fact if it is not published in a reliable source? Wikipedia policy says that "The burden of evidence lies with the editor who adds or restores material. All quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source using an inline citation.". TNXMan 21:50, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Festivals

[edit]

Festivals are continously removed ,who is doing that ? when there's a refrence http://universe.bits-pilani.ac.in/Goa/eventsAndFestivals please refrain from doing so.!

That's not a reference, it's an advertisement. TNXMan 13:53, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the reference for Spree-National Sports Festival of te campus, now put that!! http://www.oheraldo.in/News/Sports/BITS-Pilani-all-set-for-Spree-rsquo-11/45739.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.248.130.148 (talk) 18:02, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

news letter

[edit]

guys, please respect this page. Wikipedia is almost the first place where people search for info nowadays. You can't go posting links to the newsletter on the intro page itself

More Improvements?

[edit]

Being a newly founded college, I think that what has been said on this page will suffice for quite a long time. In particular, I hope that new students do NOT add sections about the cultural/technical festivals every year; this may be added in a seperate "introduction" or "student's life" page (see for example, MIT). It takes a very long time for a university to get recognition on its own, unless it operates in a totally novel way (e.g IMSc).( As a former student, I can assure that this is not the case, and will not be for a long while). Unless there is something notable (which can be objectively verified), please do not alter the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pratik.mallya (talkcontribs) 15:00, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
