Team rename to Birmingham G League or Erie Bayhawks 2019-2021

[edit]

I think that this artcile should be renamed either Team rename to Birmingham G League or Erie Bayhawks 2019-2021, until a formal name is given. This Erie BayHawks franchise has moved to Birmingham and the future of G league basketball is uncertain. [1] The Pelicans set up a website for the Birmingham franchise. General Manager of Business Operations has been named. [2]Baseballfan1948 (talk) 01:21, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Baseballfan1948: There is absolutely WP:NORUSH for this page to be moved. The recent sources says likely to be moving in 2021 but it also might be in 2022, and the league has yet to confirm anything. We should never edit on WP:SPECULATION, and never for page moves. (For now anyways, Erie is also the WP:COMMONNAME.) Once the team does officially move, preferably with a name for COMMONNAME and WP:OFFICIALNAME purposes, then the page will be moved and Erie BayHawks will go back to being a disambiguation page (as there are three separate franchises that operated under that name). Moving pages too much, especially to a vague name from a specific name, can cause disruption and broken links at times, so it should be used minimally. The sources you list may absolutely be used in the history section though to update the goings-on in Birmingham. Yosemiter (talk) 02:03, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Follow the policy on WP:NAMECHANGES. The name change needs to be announced first, then reliable sources need to routinely prefer the new name.—Bagumba (talk) 23:42, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
