Notable alumni?

[edit]

The external links to alumni should be changed to internal links to the corresponding Wikipedia articles, even if they do not yet exist. If you don't think these individuals deserve their own articles, that suggests that they are not, in fact, notable. —johndburger 03:12, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They certainly are notable. Most of the external links are to a web site that I manage, which is the definitive site for the history of Boston Grammar School. If I had time I would create a Wikipedia page for each of these indivduals. If you want to do that, then you are welcome to do so. In the meantime I can't see how an external link is less worthy than a red internal one. These links have been here for a long time without comment and I may have handled it somewhat differently if I had been doing it today. I don't mean to create any conflict by this, I just need help to see how your suggestion is constructive. SMeeds 23:19, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Beg to disagree—do you really believe that if you created a page from your profile of the Rt Rev. Frank Sargeant, for instance, that it would last very long? I suspect it would get a PROD in minutes. I filter a similar list for Boston Latin School, which is what led me to this article. The BLS list is admittedly too long, but it always seemed obvious to me that if people are not notable enough for their own article, they're not notable enough for a Notable Alumni or Notable Residents section. This discussion prompted me to do a little research, and I find that that is, in fact, the guideline. Just FYI. —johndburger 03:34, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I don't do much Wikipedia editing these days but I've just done some updates to the External links. They should be pretty innocuous, except possibly for one.

I have changed the description of http://histclo.com... to reflect the main gist of that page. I actually think the reference should be removed entirely because it is based on limited observation rather than experience or documented facts and has a broken image. Since the page quotes me as a source I feel I am a bit too close to it to remove, but I hope someone else is bold enough.

A less important point is that since the Boston Grammar Schools Federation link is present, the Boston High School link is unnecessary and maybe inappropriate. What does anyone else think? SMeeds (talk) 19:12, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Federation

[edit]

Someone has removed the previous section on the federation, which I think is justified but I think the article could benefit from a short, well sourced, summary of the abortive federation period. There is a relevant external link but this will be from the point of view of a time during the process. Some historical perspective would be useful if such a source exists. I removed the archive link and replaced it with the proper link to the current Boston High School site. SMeeds (talk) 23:49, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
