Tumblr as a source

[edit]

Domdeparis, you removed several references where tumblr was cited as a source in this article, with the edit summary, "social media is not a WP:RS and the postes do not exist any more". I'd like to draw your attention to WP:SELFSOURCE, where it says, "Self-published or questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves" and "These requirements also apply to pages from social networking websites such as . . . Tumblr . . ." The way the Tumblr cites were being used in this article they were sourcing assertions that the show's producer got a guest star to voice one of the characters as a surprise for his sister, who was a fan of the guest star, and that apparently made her happy. The posts were made by the people in question. This seems to be an acceptable use of tumblr posts as a source.

As far as the fact that they don't exist any more, at least one of them does [1]. The rest of the links don't appear to work, and that is a reason to mark them as dead links, but they should not be removed per WP:DEADREF, so long as the material they are supporting remains in the article.

I do question if this trivia belongs in the article at all. (I actually question if every episode of every tv show needs an independent article rather than being bundled into a "list of episodes of X" article - but that's a different question). If you agree that this trivia doesn't belong in the article, feel free to remove it along with the refs. However, so long as the material is there this is a perfectly acceptable use of social media as a ref. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 17:11, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @ONUnicorn: yazzydream is not the subject as far as I can tell and the other tumblr account does not seem to be an official account belonging to the subject. Social media accounts have to be official ones to be seen as self source I believe. Domdeparis (talk) 19:50, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK I've just seen the archived versions of the posts so I think that it was his official accountDomdeparis (talk) 19:56, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
