Notes
[edit]canton (subnational entity) or canton (entity) may be better names for the pages. I'd suggest to rename it to the first. -- User:Docu
- It has cycled through several names over 15 years, and is now qualified by the name of the main article Administrative division after AfD a decade ago (as it has been twice named previously). It has 12 redirects as of this date.

Isn't Canton just French for Township?
[edit]If you look in the French Wikipedia, there is an article called fr:Canton_canadien. Which are our townships. Should this page and township be merged? Nfitz 04:34, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
- The analogous jurisdiction to Switzerland's cantons are states and provinces, not townships. For example, Canton Berne contains 399 municipalities, far more than one would expect in a township. -- SwissCelt 14:18, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
- Perhaps, but in Quebec a canton is quite small, sometimes there are more than one in a municipality. Though in English we call them townships, and in French they call them Cantons (or they used to ... I don't think they exist legally any more). I'm starting to think that this should be two pages; but there should be a couple of words of clarifying text added on both the Township and Canton pages. Nfitz 18:36, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
- I'm all for that. ;-) Would you like to do the honors? -- SwissCelt 06:02, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
