It's probable that Ash, instead of following the captain's orders and being concerned over saving Kane's life, was simply doing what he was programmed to do -- locate the xenomorph and make sure it was taken aboard, at all costs. If Kane had been kept in quarantine, it's likely the chestburster would've been detected and delt with in a manner that didn't endanger the crew, but also kept the alien off the ship. -- Raveled
