- He had been a classmate of her brother’s at the University of London. Stansfeld made his living as a brewer, running the Swan Brewery, which he co-owned for a time with his brother-in-law Sidney M. Hawkes, husband of Caroline’s sister Emilie Ashurst (later Venturi).[citation needed]
- She and her husband lived at Lancaster place from November 1844. Following Stansfeld's business fortunes, the couple moved to Brompton in Kensignton Parish around 1850 then to Folkestone then to Stoke Lodge in Chelsea.[citation needed]
