Cecilia is also the patron saint of music, so that opens up a new interpretation of the song

Im pretty certain I've heard Paul Simon confirm this in an interview - I'll try and find a reference. — sjorford++ 10:38, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The requested reference is presumably for the line "I got up to wash my face, when I come back to bed someone's taken my place." Should this be spelled out explicitly, or how should this be handled? 83.250.197.97 21:29, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Someone needs to make some knowledgeable comments about how the percussion was done. It is an unusual background sound.

Also all performers on the S & G recording should be credited here.

Fair use rationale for Image:BridgeWater.jpg[edit]

Image:BridgeWater.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:42, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ultrasound[edit]

When being transferred to CD in 1996, producers removed the ultrasonic sounds in order to lower the file size,

I've changed the "supersonic" to "ultrasonic". I was also going to challenge this fact on the grounds that removing high frequencies would not alter the size of a Red Book audio file. Then I realised that perhaps the previous editor meant that sections of the song were removed, making the track shorter. Regardless, this statement needs to be clarified and cited.—Dah31 (talk) 06:28, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CDs, being a digital medium, have a maximum frequency they can encode. Vinyl records are, in theory, capable of recording ultrasound and playing it back, but audio CDs generally aren't. [[1]] This might be what that person was referring to. CronoDAS (talk) 21:42, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

UK chart position[edit]

I'm listening to Richard Todd's The Retro Countdown Show right now, playing the UK Top 40, some bubbling under songs as well, from this week in November, 1970. It was stated a few minutes ago that Cecilia by Simon & Garfunkel was on #54 in the bubbling under positions. So the record did chart in the UK, but a minor kind of minor. 83.85.143.141 (talk) 20:48, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Music video[edit]

Moscow Connection, how does it make sense to have a "music video" in the infobox that doesn't link to a music video? Surely the music video parameter is for video, not audio? 2001:BB6:4703:4A58:4CC8:D9E9:EA85:D09A (talk) 09:15, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's still a YouTube video.
If you really, really want, you can add a parameter called "header" (see Template:External music video) to change the header from "Music video" to "Audio" or something like that, but I advise you against that. Cause it's a YouTube video, the header is more intuitive as it is now. --Moscow Connection (talk) 09:22, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've added the "header" parameter. Having a header of "Music video" for something that is not a music video is just wrong. 2001:BB6:4703:4A58:948D:20E9:D3BB:7F4E (talk) 12:06, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
A header saying "YouTube" looks a bit strange (and certainly unusual), but okay, I'll think about it later. --Moscow Connection (talk) 14:02, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, how do we know that the linked YouTube page complies with WP:YOUTUBE? It looks like an ordinary user page. Doesn't that make it copyvio? 2001:BB6:4703:4A58:948D:20E9:D3BB:7F4E (talk) 14:11, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
??! It is a VEVO channel, and it is verified.
Sorry, I've had enough if this. Excuse me if I don't reply anymore.
The next time you make an edit, please think: "Does my edit make the article better?". You wanted to remove a link to the place where the reader can actually hear the song, It was not an improvement. Wikipedia is not a bureaucracy and a slightly confusing header (confusing to you, not to me) is not a valid reason to remove an important link. --Moscow Connection (talk) 16:11, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I asked a simple question. I didn't know what Vevo was. Now I know (because I looked it up, not because you were helpful). I never make an edit without thinking, does it make the article better? I deleted the link originally because I foolishly thought that "Music video" was meant to link to a music video. Now that you have explained that it is there so the reader can actually hear the song, I will change the header to "Listen", which will not confuse anybody. I will excuse you if you don't reply any more. 2001:BB6:4703:4A58:948D:20E9:D3BB:7F4E (talk) 18:25, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Release date[edit]

20 April 1970 cannot possibly be the release date, since "Cecilia" had debuted at #68 on the Hot 100 on 11 April 1970. A more likely release date: sometime in March 1970.98.149.97.245 (talk) 06:22, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
