2018? Why is this obvious error still up (it is 2017 today)? I cannot specify exact date for the change but I remember seeing the new CCTV logo sometime about a year ago. So I assume it was 2016. Amythewillowprincess (talk) 04:48, 8 July 2017 (UTC)

Removed a large chunk of text

I just removed a big block of text seemingly containing lists of details of CCTV's broadcast specifications. I couldn't quite make sense of what the text meant to say, and it wasn't cited, so I figured it should go. -Cwd.simpson (talk) 17:26, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Corrections

I have corrected that CCTV is the "only" tv channel in China. In fact there are many other local channels, although all of them are controlled by the government. But still, CCTV is no doubt the most influential, because it can be viewed in the whole country. --Formulax 09:03 1 Jul 2003 (UTC)

It's not true. Several channels, such as Kaku Channel, are not controlled by the local government. Peterxj108 (talk) 12:00, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Changes

Changed censorship. Censored means that CCTV wants to say something but the government won't let it. This isn't quite the relationshipn. Roadrunner

Changed statement on government censorship. There are two types of media in China, official and semi-official. All media is subject to government censorship but the semi-official media are not subject to direct government control.

CCTV is "official" media so they aren't merely subject to government censorship, but rather their editorial and news lines are government determined.

--Roadrunner

"Publicly funded by..." - We can see from youtube.com ref to this wikipedia page on CCTV mainly funded by the China government. But which big media organization in the China does not mainly funded by China government, (top level or others). Actually, CCTV also has its own income from advertisement and others alike. China is a country of big government, a country of socialism (more close to capitalism nowadays), a country of one big party with lots small parties.

Media situation

Tried to describe the media situation in China. It's basically something *very* different and rather bizarre to most Westerners. The best analogy is to think of a Fortune 500 company. Now we all know that in a Fortune 500 company, everyone works for the good of the company and all of the divisions of the company work in lock step with each other..... Well actually no..... Sometimes the greatest enemy of division A in a company are the folks at division B.

Think about that, and the Chinese media system should make more sense. If you want to really understand the internal politics of the Communist Party of China, don't start with Karl Marx. Start with Dilbert.

Name

I think the full name of CCTV should be "China Central Television", see [1]. --FallingInLoveWithPitoc 15:35, 18 Oct 2003 (UTC)

See [2], The winner is: China Central Television. :D --FallingInLoveWithPitoc 15:58, 18 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Update

I've updated the page and tried to be as objective as reasonably possible when discussing a potentially political topic like CCTV-9.

CCTV HD

I just came across this and it seems to be an encrypted CCTV High Definition channel. I noticed that this channel is not mentioned in the article, so could somebody who is familiar with this add it? --Fizan 10:19, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

    • And as I just found out (as of August 1st), it's only available on Satellite on the ZhongXing-6B satellite (at 115.5 degrees East longitude) using Transponder S20, a TS ID of 16 (D), 4100Mhz, Vertical Polarization, a Data rate of 27.50 and an FEC 3/4. CCTV-HD is on Channel 3430. Best news is that it's public and free (with the exception of the dish and box)! --Jack Zhang 16:03, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

CCTV hosts

Does the list of hosts belong here or on the channel pages? It seems strange that the main names identified with CCTV should be the hosts of CCTV-9, which could be described as an obscure foreign-language channel unavailable to most of the population. I have separated the hosts into two lists, to clarify that CCTV is not dependent on foreign talent on its main shows, but would welcome consensus on further moves. --Matt 00:39, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Satellite Availability

I believe CCTV-9 is available on DirecTV, channel 455.

Broadcast vs. Pay Channels.

The article does not mention which of the CCTV channels are broadcast over the airwaves in China, (or elsewhere), and which are only available through Cable, Satellite, or Fiber Optic Television.

Shouldn't this information be included? Pine 21:50, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:CCTVdotcomlogo.gif

Image:CCTVdotcomlogo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

How do you know that CCTV airs CSI: Miami

I just removed a claim that CCTV airs certain American shows like CSI: Miami (a favorite show of mine). How did anyone know it airs there? I looked up the Chinese article about the show and googled the term under cctv.com and found no evidence. --Andrewlp1991 (talk) 04:51, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Disruptive edits

PCPP is repeatedly removing sourced information with no attempt at discussion or a reasonable explanation. This is just a note to call for either discussion or an end to non-collegial editing. If you keep reverting sourced additions, PCPP, I will take some kind of DR action. I'm sure there's plenty available.--Asdfg12345 02:57, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Partial Article Dispute

I have suspected that parts of the article may need some editing and some translation from the Chinese Wikipedia. That version contains some events that were not listed on the English Wikipedia, and I would wonder why. CNTV Rename?

Part of CCTV (the website) has been renamed to CNTV (China National Television, although a better translation based on the actual Chinese name is China Online Television). Should this be mentioned somewhere in the article or a new one created? User:Noian too lazy to log in 169.229.72.78 (talk) 04:54, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

I believe their web-based streaming is branded CNTV (China Network Television) but I do not think it is a separate network from CCTV in terms of contents. Amythewillowprincess (talk) 04:50, 8 July 2017 (UTC)

From CCTV, the Olympics on TDM

You are invited to join the discussion at Talk:List of 2012 Summer Olympics broadcasters#Macau. Has TDM in Macau simulcast CCTV in mainland China for Olympics coverage before 2012 games? JSH-alive/talk/cont/mail 14:53, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Language editions important to CCTV missing articles

The CCTV website has editions in, besides English, Chinese (national language of PRC), Korean (a regional language of PRC and a language of South Korea, so there are two CCTV editions in Korean, with one for each market), the Chinese regional languages Uighur, Mongolian (in Mongol script), Kazakh (in Arabic script), and Tibetan, and the international languages of Arabic, French, Russian, and Spanish.

The following language Wikipedias do not yet have articles about CCTV:

  • Kazakh Done
  • Mongolian
  • Tibetan
  • Uighur

This important article needs expansion beyond a bit of info and a channel list. --Danaman5 07:31, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
