To the writer of this article (or anyone else for that matter), please explain what is meant by the following excerpt:

"She criticized LAPD officers . . . and for not exempting the media from any protests."

If you've accuarately quoted her, she seems to have said that the officers SHOULD have exempted media from protests. Maybe it's just me, but this is apparently contrary to what the average journalist might be expected to say in a situation like the one depicted in the article.
