I was there
[edit]I was to graduate from CLHS in 1984. I dropped out instead.
To me, the deaths were not a big surprise, merely an extension of what I already felt.
This, not Columbine, to me, was the start of it.

Update???
[edit]I think that this entry should have the Cheating Scandal of 2011 added, as well as more notable people, perhaps some of the astronauts that graduated here. (Camiam840 (talk) 22:19, 22 April 2013 (UTC)).

What's with deleting the bit about the suicides in 1984? I included valid references, and it a part of the history of the school. 143.166.226.40 00:08, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Todd Dwyer |

Clear Lake suicides
[edit]@John from Idegon: I noticed the removal of the suicide content. Based on the sources I read (NYT and NYT2) it seems like the school and the school district CCISD were associated with the student suicides (even though they presumably took place off campus) and the school district instituted programs against suicide at Clear Lake High.
This book source talks in detail about how the CLHS psychologists and staff dealt with the repeated suicides WhisperToMe (talk) 11:35, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
- I'm going to put the content back as it was a good piece and I would suggest adding in the book source into the article as a ref where appropriate. CIN I&II (talk) 15:50, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
Challenger soccer ball
[edit]User:John from Idegon has removed the following, I think unhelpfully:
- "A soccer ball carried aboard the fatal final flight of Space Shuttle Challenger by astronaut Ellison Onizuka, whose children attended Clear Lake High School and who coached the soccer team, is displayed in the school."
- Source (footnoted in article): Malinowski, Tonya (29 June 2018). "The inside story of the soccer ball that survived the Challenger explosion". ESPN.com. Retrieved 27 June 2019.
This fact is mentioned in our article on the Challenger disaster, which is a really long one, much longer than the one about the school, and in Onizuka's article. The ball was the subject of a long-form journalistic article (the source cited). A mention of this historic artifact, which has a personal link to and is now housed at the school, is at least as valid for inclusion as many of the other facts mentioned already, some of which arguably are quite trivial (a $2000 grant for music, the basketball team finishing 2nd in district in 2010 etc.) I cannot see what harm this short sentence is doing and would like to reinstate it. Return of content removed by User:John from Idegon
[edit]The content that was removed by the User:John from Idegon seemingly has been a running issue on this page without the user replying on the talk page at all, so I've returned the content regarding the suicides in 1985 to the page seeing that the user hasn't replied on anything and seemingly was repeatedly making unhelpful edits to the page.
