Bogus cons and references

[edit]

As far as my research goes, there are a lot of fake cons listed under the "list of hacker conferences" section. AthCon, the cons in India etc. are probably added by vandals (or possibly by frustrated and bored hackers), and contain bogus references. Need support for removal. Article needs more information

[edit]
  • How long/short are an usual hacker convention?
  • What do people do at hacker conventions?
  • What happends at a hacker convention?
  • What does a typical hacker convention involve?
  • Does hacker conventions have Internet access?
  • Do they have WLAN (wireless) access?
  • Only private person come or does security companies come too?
  • Do they have wargames?
  • Do they involve events?
  • Do they involve lectures?
These probably depend largely on the convention, but I agree that this article is inadequate. It was written as a disambiguation page, but should be written as a proper article including a list (the list might even be separated out into a separate article, List of hacker conventions). Naming?

[edit]

Also, the Article is at Hacker Con, it should be at Hacker Conference, Hacker Con is the popular name, not the actual term. Sephiroth storm (talk) 12:20, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article moved this day from Hacker Con to Hacker conference. I also will be going through and insuring that the Conference listing is still accurate. I could use some help. Sephiroth storm (talk) 12:31, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's a thorough list of security conferences, with a focus on academic conferences, here: http://www.ieee-security.org/Calendar/cipher-hypercalendar.html Adhintz (talk) 06:56, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I just realized how messed up I was on the previous naming policy, it should have been at Hacker con per WP:COMMONNAME. Sephiroth storm (talk) 19:00, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

History

[edit]

If Hacker conference redirects to this Computer security conference, it should include historical context, like The Hackers Conference and scholarly treatments.

Dutch hacker convention

[edit]

The section about the quadrennial dutch hacker convention is outdated: SHA2017 is missing. Also the foundation behind the events is now called "International Festivals for Creative Application of Technology Foundation" (IFCAT) – see https://ifcat.org for more information. --Saerdnaer (talk) 19:07, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
