"Corbinian... after herself"
[edit]All the sources I used stated that Corbinian's mother named him "after herself." As pointed out by Wetman [1], this is mysterious indeed, especially so in that her name is not provided. Until this information is found, I'm going to remove that clause. Alekjds 06:23, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
- Note: After doing a cursory search, I found confirmation that his mother's name may have been "Corbiniana" at http://www.helmut-zenz.de/hzkorbin.htm. The Biographie section refers to his mother expressedly as "Corbiniana." (Nach dem Tod seiner Mutter Corbiniana lebte er als Eremit bei der Kirche von Saint-Germain bei Châtres. - "After the death of his mother Corbiniana he lived as a hermit in the church of Saint Germain in Châtres") Also, it defines the etymology of his name. (Sein Name bedeutet so viel wie "Befreier von Sorgen," "liberator of concerns/anxiety") I think it would be justification enough to reinclude the bit about the origin of his name. Stephen Colbert
[edit]In tonight's show, Colbert said that the New Orleans Saints would tame the Chicago Bears like Saint Corbinian tamed an actual bear... pretty obscure fact for him or his writers to dig up. (Colbert has previously mentioned Wikipedia on his show, but didn't specifically reference it this time.) *Dan T.* 04:41, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm, what do you know? Interesting. Alekjds TALK 05:16, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- Not that obscure to Colbert, perhaps. Both he and his pundit character are Roman Catholic, and The Colbert Report emphasizes that. His show has a running gag about bears. He may have noticed Corbinian's bear on Pope Benedict XVI's coat of arms in the summer of 2005, while the new arms were being widely publicized, shortly before the show debuted in October of that year. This small joke may have had a long gestation. -- Lisasmall 16:19, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- He's referenced Saint Hubert of Liege as well. Hubert was referenced in a June 2007 episode of The Colbert Report. Stephen Colbert declared: "As you all know, I'm huge in the Catholic community. I'm not saying I'm bigger than Jesus. But it's fair to say I'm bigger than some of the Minor saints. I mean, St. Hubert of Liege? The guy is the patron saint of dog bites. How hard is it to buy some Neosporin?"--Polylerus 23:36, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
