Roma ethnicity?[edit]

He might have some Roma ancestry, but you need a reliable source talking about his ancestry, or, even better, his self-identification as such (from the interviews I've read, he defines himself as "Romanian", nothing more). So far, from what I googled, I see that the arguments go around the "he looks like a gyspsy" jab. That's an opinion, not a fact, and should be marked as such, if notable enough to be included in the article (see WP:NPOV). The page previously used as reference doesn't look like a reliable source, it's an opinion article from a random bloggish site. bogdan (talk) 11:30, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is only partially true. First, the article saids Romani origin, not Romani ethnicity and there is a difference. One can choose how to identify himself to the others, but he cannot change his ancestry/origins (an "Ursari" clan in the case of Busuioc). Did anybody asked Mailat if he identifies himself as ţigan, Rom or Romanian? Of course not! But it's the same old story - if he is a "bad rom" than he is a ţigan, if he is a "good rom", than he is Romanian. Romaworld is not the most reliable source, but its not bad either. It's on the edge. If Romaworld would have been used as a source to identify a "bad rom", none of the persons that object to this article wouldn't say anything. Kenshin (talk) 09:32, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
His looks have nothing to do with it, there are "true Romanis" that look just like Europeans and "true Romanis" that look just like Indians. This is probably because they were right from the beginning a mixture of European and South-Asian populations!!! Kenshin (talk) 09:45, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
