Move

[edit]

Probably need to move this to "County Manager {Ireland}, and dab this page. The U.S. has 1000 or more county managers. Right now the "county manager" is under "city manager," which isn't that far off, but it's peculiar. It would probably be smarter to have two articles "County Manager {United States} and "City Manager" and fork to a common sub-article. Student7 (talk) 00:14, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rename

[edit]

Could this page be renamed to 'County Manager' to more accurately reflect the term used in the relevent Irish legislation? http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/1940/en/act/pub/0012/print.html#sec3

I believe another editor suggested something similar here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:County_Manager (unsigned comment added by User:202.7.176.234

Nice that you can find your way to at least one talk page, User:202.7.176.234. No: the article deals with managers of both county and city councils. Brocach (talk) 15:44, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It would have been nicer if I'd had help. The legislation states:
3.(1) There shall be in every county a county manager for such county who shall be called and known as the_____________County Manager (with the name of the county prefixed).
(2) The several counties (in this Act referred to as grouped counties) mentioned in the First Schedule to this Act shall, for the purposes of this Act, be grouped in the manner set forth in that Schedule and, in the case of each such group, one and the same person shall be the county manager for each of the counties included in such group.
(3) The office of the Dublin City Manager and the office of Dublin County Manager shall always be held by one and the same person.
(4) The county manager for a county shall be an officer of the council of that county.

Available here: http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/1940/en/act/pub/0012/print.html#sec3

The dichotomy between city and countil is applicable to Cork at most, with all due respect to the City of the Tribes.
