More
I reckon there should be talk a bit more about the success of albums, and at least a mention of how the last album human after all was crap, (my opinion and some critics). I dunno how many reviews Ive read where some writer thinks he/she is making a witty remark when at the end of of the review saying "Well they are 'human after all'". ive lost count. I also heard somewhere that human after all was made in 6 weeks, explaining its shortness and poor quality. I will attempt to track down this source again.
- I've heard a mention that it was in Daft Punk's record contract that they would make 3 albums, explaining why not as much effort might have been put into Human After All. PlazzTT 16:25, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
- Nah, all of those are rumors as far as I know. Even though Daft Punk spent only 6 weeks recording it (which was actually more like 2 weeks from what I've heard in an interview on the French Touch forum), they still enjoyed working on the HAA album. This was a new concept for Daft Punk and it worked out pretty well in the end for them. Douglasr007 03:09, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Human After All isn't really that bad of an album. I mean, it is a bit repetitive, but so were Homework and Discovery, and they were both huge hits. Human After All just has a bunch of really new sounds that take some getting used to- I hated this album but at first, but it grew on me after just a few weeks.
add comments, about article or daft punk. Jesus On Wheels 15:15, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
- Don't forget when criticising Human after all to remain NPOV, maybe find some review and add them to the page. More talk about the albums would help the page. I don't mind Human after all, just depends on your taste of 'good' & 'poor' quality and how much you expect the albums to be similar. Swarve 10:45, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
- You also have to keep in mind that they have said repeatedly that they are not interested in doing the same thing over and over so Human After All is an experiment piece rather than a bunch of dance tracks. All I know is if you heard the Coachella concert, the HAA tracks mix beautifully
According to the article: "2001's Discovery took on a slicker and distinctly Japanese synth-pop-oriented style. ". Isn't this factually incorrect? Except for Interstella 5555 I fail to see any real 'distinctly' Japanese influence. This isn't even close to Japanese synth-pop. However, obvious influences do include disco, pop, and the 70-80's (But their music varies considerably on the same album). Nezbie 10:35, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
- That would be correct. The only thing that's using Japanese style is the music videos à la Interstella 5555. I'll change it. Douglasr007 01:02, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
I have alot of info on Daft Punk and would like to put it on the site.
1.)They have an OFFICIAL Daft Punk MySpace on MySpace. Check it out it is real not fake. I put it on here and someone deletes the link. I also have a lot of other info which I will tell about later
Not sure where to stick this bit, but the article states "First U.S. Performance in 8 years." I seem to remember them playing Rive Gauche here in Chicago in about...2003? I can't seem to find a date, so I won't update the page as of yet.
about the citation needed for the quote, it was in the old interview which appears to have been removed from the external links and replaced with a different one.
- Duly noted. Just64helpin 23:04, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Gap Commercial?
Does anyone have a video of it? I would like to see it.

Religion
What are these guys' religion(s) (these guys meaning Guy and Thomas of course)? I'm just wondering. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.122.185.115 (talk • contribs) 05:41, 27 February 2006 (UTC).
- To be honest, with listening to Daft Punk and reading a numerous amount of articles about them, I have no idea what their religion is. It seems their religion is more of a mystery than their real identities. Douglasr007 01:09, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
Well, after watching Interstella 5555, I'm willing to bet that they're Christian. When that one guy dies, his soul comes out of his body and flies off into space, leaving a brief cross-shaped flare. Perhaps an allusion to Christianity? Besides, 90% of France is Roman Catholic...the odds are good that Thomas and Guy-Manuel are too. Fireraven 01:45, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Influences
I was just trying to find proof or examples of Daft Punk's influences in their music. I can see the disco related influence in one more time. But what about the Beach Boys, and their other influences.
- Before Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel formed Daft Punk, they formed an indie rock group called "Darlin'" which the name was based off of a Beach Boys song. I don't know for sure if the Beach Boys were a heavy influence for Daft Punk but I know that inside the pamphlet for the Homework album, you can spot the Beach Boys logo. Douglasr007 01:23, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
LISTEN TO TEACHERS. OH MY GOD. COME ON! Gatesofawesome! 15:46, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- well, imho they are strongly influenced by a space rock French band of late 1970s, the Rockets, who heavily used vocoder in a similar way; that band was later joined by British singer Sal Solo, and was active up to mid 1980s.--Doktor Who 10:11, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- I really wouldn't say that all of the artists Daft Punk calls out on Teachers would be considered influences. It was more of a shoutout but then again the track is called Teachers and the album is called Homework. Hell, you might even consider Kraftwerk as an influence just because of the vocoders. Douglasr007 23:24, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
DJ Hell appears to be a huge influence, though his album, Geteert und Gedefert and their first single, The New Wave came out simultaneously. They are too varied!!!Obviously Chicago House. Green Velvet's Electrocution can be heard as an influence in Rock n Roll, and the old funk and electro funk they sampled obviously has had a huge influence on them. Oh, and Kraftwerk's Man Machine is virtually their Discovery album, as well as Kraftwerk's robotic live personas are precursors to Daft Punk's transformation into robots. Gatesofawesome! 01:28, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
About the rumour to get out of the Virgin contract
Has anybody more information about this? Why do they want out of the contract? Will they stop producing music, or do they want to continue on their own?
Many artists get tired of their contracts and are at odds with their labels. DP got signed all the way back in 1996. Many take-overs happen, and DID happen just a year ago at Virgin which is under new management. They're not finished though. They'll probably get a new label in the future. The Greatest Hits, I believe was their contract breaker. They are now free.
- I don't think they have broke up with Virgin Records yet. There's no official word. The source you provided is not reliable enough to state that they broke up with Virgin Records because it's just a review from some website and it's not official like from Daft Punk or Virgin Records themself. Virgin Records still has Daft Punk on their website. [1] Also, nothing was mentioned of a break up with Virgin Records in a recent interview from Daft Punk's manager Pedro Winter. Douglasr007 23:41, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- I've read it more than once now that they are out of Virgin. The reason they would still be on Virgin's web site is because they're promoting the last release which is the Greatest Hits.
- But that doesn't make any sense. The website they're promoting on their website is the Human After All interactive TV one. It's not even the Daft Punk Musique website. I know Labels, a division of EMI Music France, mentions the new Daft Punk Musique is their latest Daft Punk related news articles. Douglasr007 02:38, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
I read an article written right before the release of Discovery saying that they wanted to be in full control of their contracts/creativity which apperently was the spawn of the Daft Trax, Roule, and Crydamoure labels
Use in commercials - notable?
I'm tempted to remove the uses in commercials from the Trivia section. Are these particularly significant and well-known commercials for any reason? M.C. Brown Shoes 05:52, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm kind of iffy with the commercial bits. Daft Punk has been used in a lot of commercials and their songs are almost always used in MTV and VH1 shows. I don't really think the commercials bit is significant unless it was mentioning the iPod silhouette commercials. Douglasr007 23:57, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, I just removed the nonsignificant uses of Daft Punk songs in commercials. I also added a note whenever tries to add some trivia in the section. Douglasr007 23:32, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Okay, fair. Does Daft Spartan need to be a jerk about enforcing it? Gladrius 01:25, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Robot suits
The robot helmets they use look spectacular. Anybody got some more info on these, especially, who designed them? It looks like they can type in sentences for the display (at least one of the helmets) while the other one has symbols to choose from. They look so good it must be someone pretty skilled that have customly made them for the group.
- You would be correct about the text and symbols. All I know is that the helmets were designed by Tony Gardner. The helmets were also expensive. Douglasr007 01:55, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Can they take off their helmets?? They say that a bug affected them on September 9 at 9:09pm in 1999 Does that mean that they can't take it off. How do they eat, Sleep or is it a publicity act Metlover21 23:57, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oh come on now. That's just merely a quote that Thomas Bangalter stated to make it seem real. The robot gear and helmets are mostly a publicity act. Even before "acquiring" the robot persona, Daft Punk hardly showed their faces. Douglasr007 08:43, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
It's a metaphor. 909 is the club drum set - they mean that they are no longer human and have been taken over by some kind of House bug. Gatesofawesome! 15:50, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- I've recently found this [2], enjoy it. --Doktor Who 12:00, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Other Live Performances
Daft Punk's Coachella performance was the first new performance in the USA in 8 years, anyone know what their previous performances were? I know of a Even Furthur Wisconsin but that's all, anyone have a list?
Alive 1997 is a recording of a show they did in Birgingham, I think. No list, though.
There was also the live show in LA which was a club thing like Birgingham, no where as big as Coachella. I also believe they did a show in Wisconsion, but I'd have to look into it
Here's the Wisconsin show on Google Video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4275660658800832791 StreborKram 20:49, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Should there be a section on their live shows? How they remix most of their material to build up "new" songs? Maybe include some details of their pyramid/light wall setup in the "Use of Visuals" section? StreborKram 05:48, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
oh hell yeah that pyramid shit was off the hook! i cant wait till they release the cd for the live performance, i could listen to that forever. Dorkmo 08:35, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Do they speak English????
I was wondering in their songs they sometimes speak. Well i want to know if that is somebody else or do they speak the english in the songs Metlover21 8:42, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
I don't know about in the songs, but they do speak English. --StreborKram 23:53, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
Well in the songs they speak English, thats why i asked Metlover21 9:25pm EST, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, they do speak English but they have a French accent. I suppose since they use vocoders they can cut out the French accent they have. Douglasr007 02:27, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
There's a video on video.google.com of an interview they did sometime around Discovery's release, and it's all in English. Thomas and Guy-Manuel don't speak perfect English, but it's good enough that one can understand them easily. Fireraven 01:49, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Daft Punk speak English that is good enough by our standards and the Discovery, Homework and Human After All album states that the vocals are by them. Suduser85 15:44, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Here it is: http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=8943495939887017057&q=daft+punk 70.50.23.2 18:57, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Photographs
Come on now, you gotta show at least one picture of them without the masks, brown shoes. StreborKram 00:15, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
But it destroys the mystery!! I mean what do their faces mean to anyone, they've been doing the robot/mask thing for so long M.C. Brown Shoes 04:17, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
I suppose, I don't know, Wikipedia *is* an encyclopedia, it would make sense to cover as much information as possible on them. StreborKram 05:26, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
At one time, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel's pics have been on here but under their own article. The Bangalter pic has recently come back. I could try to get a Guy-Manuel pic back on his own article with a reliable copyright. Also, I'm beginning to think we should try to get another pic of Daft Punk in their robot suits on here. Douglasr007 07:49, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- WOW! Nevermind. I didn't look at the article when reading this. I'm still going to try to find a Guy-Manuel pic for his article. Douglasr007 07:53, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm a big Daft Punk fan. In my travels on the internet, I found this little beauty: http://www.juniorchavez.com/myspace/daft_punk.jpg
Also, http://imagesocket.com/view/Daft_Punk_Cassius_01c53.jpg Just64helpin 16:40, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
I actually saw Daft Punk unmasked back in 1997, during their appearance at a morning radio show — the photo that appears in the Homework liner notes (and the other photos linked here) are indeed them. It wasn't that great a set (not even close to the awesome live set they have now!), and both Thomas and Guy-Manuel looked pretty sleepy (it was at 8 am, after all). The guys aren't particularly photogenic, so it's just as well they hide their identities behind the robot guises. Actually, the "robot mask" schtick is a pretty good gimmick — I'll bet they attract a lot more ladies with the masks on than they would without them. —Down10 TACO 06:56, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
Here's your proof
In the article for Homework, look where it says "Recorded in:". IT SAYS 1995-1996. Now look at Da Funk. NINETEEN-NINETY-FRICKKEN-FIVE. Now you would expect that the title song would be recorded AFTER the filler, right? It could also mean they were recorded at around the same time, but let's look at the REST OF WDPK, shall we?
"WDPK, 83.7, the sound of tomorrow, the music of today, brings you excusively Daft Punk's Homework! (echo)"
You can tell they recorded this with Homework in mind.
And the most obvious proof is that Musique was recorded FOR DA FUNK.
Now, any more sad saps wanting to take me and my proof on? --Machchunk
- Also, someone needs to cite this for the "slowed" part. --Machchunk
Darlin
I'm taking out the bit about the band being active under the name Darlin, because that was a completley different band that did a different genre of music that had different members. I'm leaving it in the biography though. Nickflavor 22:24, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
I am moving parts of the "Trivia" section to their related articles where they may become relevant. This has been suggested by the recent peer review. Just64helpin 15:35, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- I changed the trivia section to "appearances". 65.88.88.126 16:56, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks Just64helpin. I don't know the Appearances section for right now but it works out for right now. Douglasr007 23:20, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
I moved the historical elements from the lead into the "History" section. The lead should eventually be larger and stand on its own, according the peer review. Just64helpin 14:23, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
"Friends"
Maybe there could be a line or two about their support for new French groups like Justice, SebastiAn, Kavinsky, and labels like Ed Banger and Kitsune?
These acts and labels are in their top friends on myspace: http://myspace.com/daftpunk and acts like Justice and Digitalism are supporting them on their current tour. --PlazzTT 11:20, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
'97 tour dates necessary
There is no point in having an entire list of tour dates. Tours on itself are good information, but every venue and place is pointless. I will detele it. If anyone agrees, say so.--Soetermans 12:29, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
- Very true. The only important date for the tour was the one with the Alive 1997 recording. Douglasr007 17:56, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- I added the dates back in August, but I agree that it's too much information for Wikipedia. Bartkuik 19:31, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
i think its better to have tour dates. with the internet we have an unlitimited amount of space for information and tour dates provide and interesting history of a band. Dorkmo 08:35, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- Even though Wikipedia is a source of information, it follows guidelines. Imagine if the Pink Floyd article was filled with tons of concert dates with their many tours. Only notable tour dates need to be posted which would be the Alive 1997 recording, the Coachella performance since it was the first performance in the US in 7 years, and the Bang Music festival as it was the last of the pyramid scheme. Douglasr007 02:22, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
JJJ Interview
Whoever added the information from their JJJ interveiw in November 2006, DAMN you are quick! It has only JUST aired (2 minutes ago maybe?) where I am (SA). Brilliant!! --61.68.116.114 06:02, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- It still needs a more permanent source, preferably in print. Just64helpin 15:13, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
DVD of Coachella?
Does anyone have any more iformation in regards to a DVD of their set at Coachella '06 coming out? Is the only mention the one on the French forum? --PulpAffliction 03:49, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
Bangalter's official residence
He can't possibly live in California. Can someone actually show references saying he lives in CA? That just seems ridiculous. // 3R1C 17:48, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- An issue of Mixmag stated that he moved to California. I'll look up the reference again. Just64helpin 18:10, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Birth date
There appears to be conflicting reports about when Thomas was born. A number of other sites such as Answers.com and AOL Music say that he was born on January 1st, but for some reason Wikipedia and all of the sites that copy Wikipedia say January 3. Is there any way to verify what the correct date is? --Chris Brennan 01:06, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
- I've clarified the source for birth date. Just64helpin 16:17, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
