Undisclosed paid edits

[edit]

I have added an {{undisclosed paid}} tag to this article because of extensive editing by a UPE sockfarm, please see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Thaiboy43 for evidence. Users relevant to this page include: Andcentra (talk · contribs) The article will need a thorough review ensuring notability, due weight, neutral language, and use of reliable sources before the tag is removed. MarioGom (talk) 13:25, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any evidence of paid edits at those links. What specifically is the evidence? --Nbauman (talk) 03:24, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nbauman: It has been (now) disclosed by the author. See the banner above. MarioGom (talk) 22:36, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I just did a thorough edit, adding sourcing and noting a few places where citations were still needed (some association memberships, principally). From what I see in revision page, Andcentra had just added selected publications, which are all sourced, and some categories (living people, immunologist). The tone reads as neutral to me. User:MarioGom, I followed the links above and I can't find the admission by Andcentra that s/he was paid to edit this page. Where is it? --Nbauman (talk) 23:14, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nbauman: See Andcentra (talk · contribs) has been paid by Daniel O. Griffin on their behalf. at Special:Permalink/1119319725. Added by Andcentra on 20 February 2022 (diff). MarioGom (talk) 23:20, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Is this what you're referring to? "Also, i am a paid wiki editor, in the past i have made undisclosed edits." --Nbauman (talk) 23:26, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm referring to this exact text: Andcentra (talk · contribs) has been paid by Daniel O. Griffin on their behalf., added by Andcentra at Special:Permalink/1119319725. You can find it by clicking this link, pressing Control+F, and searching "paid by Daniel O. Griffin". MarioGom (talk) 23:31, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but how is that an admission by Andcentra? Nbauman (talk) 01:09, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nbauman: Honestly, I don't know what kind of answer you're looking for. I pointed to the exact paid disclosure by Andcentra, added by Andcentra. So let me ask you, how is that not an admission? MarioGom (talk) 08:02, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
When I press Control+F, and search "paid by Daniel O. Griffin", I get
Andcentra (talk · contribs) has been paid by Daniel O. Griffin on their behalf.
That's in Wikipedia's voice, not in Andcentra's voice. That's not an admission. Where has Andcentra admitted in his/her own voice that he/she was paid by Griffin? --Nbauman (talk) 22:04, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nbauman: {{Paid}} is the standard template for paid editing disclosures on user pages, which is also recommended at WP:PAID. This template was added by Andcentra to their own talk page, which you can check in the page history. If you think this template is not a valid paid editing disclosure, you're free to bring that up at Template talk:Paid or Wikipedia talk:Paid-contribution disclosure. MarioGom (talk) 22:30, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but there is nothing on Andcentra's talk page to indicate that it was Andcentra who added that template, rather than an admin. The template addition has no signature.
I'm not concerned about the individual edit, but I'm trying to figure out the Wikipedia process for handling accusations of violating rules in general. I don't see any audit trail for this particular decision. If you can easily point it out with a link, go ahead, but I'm ready to give up on this. --Nbauman (talk) 18:24, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nbauman: Here's the link to the exact edit where Andcentra added the disclosure: Special:Diff/1073043539. Wikipedia tracks every change to every page, including the author of changes and time. If you follow the link, you will see that Andcentra added a disclosure (in the source: {{Connected contributor (paid)|User1=Andcentra|U1-employer=Daniel O. Griffin|U1-client= Daniel O. Griffin}}) to their own talk page, with timestamp 18:54, 20 February 2022. MarioGom (talk) 21:56, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To add some more context: paid editing might seem unusual for pages on academics. It actually isn't. There's at least one company who spams University emails to offer creating a biography on Wikipedia, as documented on Wikipedia:List of paid editing companies § Index of Sciences LTD. There are also more generalist spam companies creating biographies for academics, as part of a wider clientele. MarioGom (talk) 22:04, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

OK, now I've got it. Special:Diff/1073043539 is what I was looking for. It has Andcentra's signature. Thanks for the help. --Nbauman (talk) 19:39, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
