Surgery
[edit]Dave Wallace underwent hip surgery in February of 2006, after developing an infection and is expected to miss at least several months of the 2006 regular season.
He developed the right hip infection about three weeks ago during his drive from Connecticutt to Florida for the start of 2006 spring training. The infection was related to a hip replacement he had a decade ago.
Bullpen coach Al Nipper was named interim pitching coach at the start of spring training and is expected to remain in that role until Wallace, who joined the Red Sox in 2003, can return.
