Source for praenomen: Decimus or Publius?

[edit]

Does anyone know the source for Asiaticus' praenomen? I have seen Decimus in at least one recent source, but most older sources call him Publius. None of the ancient writers cited in the article seem to mention his praenomen. If no source for Decimus can be found, my inclination is to rename the article, on the assumption that Publius is the more widely-known name, with a note explaining that some sources give Decimus. I note that Publius is a regular name in the Valeria gens, while Decimus only appears once or twice in the "Others" category, probably indicating freedmen and their descendants. Of course, I don't know if Asiaticus was descended from the ancient patrician Valerii, but even if his ancestors were only adopted or manumitted into the gens, they'd probably use the regular praenomina of the gens. Could someone change this error throughout the article? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:100E:B071:B033:7B61:ECAF:9DF3:8F6F (talk) 23:36, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
